Red face Discovering watt rating

Thanks for checking this out guys and gals, i'm a new member and i've been searching the forums high and low and did not find the answer to my dilemma so i thaught id post this myself to see if anybody could help! thanks!

ok so here's the deal, LAst summer, i bought this amplifier from some guy, he told me it was rated at either 1200w or 1000w, not sure... and i have a 15" 1000w sony xplod competition subwoofer in a bandpass box, it's massive.

Anyway i wanted to know if somebody had any knowledge on how i can discover the wattage of my amplifier probably (or obviously) using a multimeter.

this will aid me with knowing howmuch current it draws form my car's alternator, to see if i need a new alternator and/or capacitor. but that's later issues

thanks so much in advance

Post everyone a picture, im sure someone will know what model it is. Once you find out what model it is, punch that into google, find the spec sheet and bang your all set.

It sounds like your talking about the maximum wattage which wont really do you any good in finding out how much current this will draw from your battery, so it basically isnt going to tell you whether your alt will be able to keep up or not. Good Luck.

how much are the fuses rated for on the amp? watts = volts X current... so 14.4 X the fuses on the amp, will tell you how many watts it draws from the battery, then take into consideration that amplifiers aren't 100 % efficient
