How do I test my rca's?

As the title states I am curious how this is done. Do I simply check resistance of each circuit? What should they have for resistance if any?

The reason I want to check them is that I have sent 2 different brand new X1200M amps into protection mode shorter after running them (stuck in protect mode also).

Bad RCA cables won't cause an amp to go into protection. Check your power, fuse, and ground connections...

Would an excessive voltage drop while operating cause 2 different brand new amps to lock into protection mode? I thought they should reset themselves but both stayed in protect mode. the first one for approx 5 mins run time(pushing a 4 ohm 600 watt rms sub), the second amp maybe 30 seconds. Even if I disconnect everything, and only reconnect power, ground and remote they both didn't come back.

Both amps have been sent in for warranty (lol) right now and maybe they can tell me what happened to them?

I would also verify output wiring

To answer your question on testing RCAs: tip to tip should be almost a short. Ground to ground also almost a short. But tip to ground is open circuit.

When in doubt, rip it out.

What? that is silly... there are always ways of testing and troubleshooting to isolate the problem before needlessly ripping something out.

it is trivial and fast to test rcas...and takes a long time to uninstall and install under carpet etc. But do what you want. rip it all out... reinstall new... and find out the problem is still there.
