I need System wiring advise please

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a JVC KD R 720 head deck, 4 Polk Audio MM 521 coaxial speakers with a cross over and an Arc 125.2 mini amp 2 channel all running in a motorcycle fairing. The nominal impedance of the speakers is 2.7 ohms and the Arc amp is stable at 2 ohms. I do not know the best or correct way to wire this up to give me the best performance and sound quality. I have heard if I wire it up incorrectly that the amp could burn up the out put. Please help as I have no idea how to do this at all. Series, parallel, or series parallel is what I have heard people talking about. I do not understand. I don't want to make any mistakes and damage this nice stuff. Also my wife has the same head deck and 1 set of the Polks and 1 set of Energy speakers that are 4 ohms and 80 watts rms. I would be greatful for some education on how to wire this as I am a total rookie at this stuff.

you should be able to wire each side in parallel, thus each channel of the amp sees a nominal 2 ohms. The 2.7ohms you are measuring is DC resistance and not impedance.

Enjoy your ride

I was just posting what Polk says about the speakers and Arc about the amp I have very little knowledge in this area. Looking for the best way to wire it up so I don't make any mistakes.

Parallel should be fine. Right side, +&- from both speakers wired together into right side output. Same for the left channel. Thats 2ohm per channel

( did you know that those amps will power the speakers in stereo, so 2 of your left speakers will be powered from left channel and 2 of your right speakers will be powered from your right channels. I'm asking not because there's anything wrong with that, considering its a bike, you don't need rear fill like in cars, I'm just informing you about the setup. additionally you need to wire the speakers in series if you want to power all 4 spk from the amp. that's because your spkrs are 2.7 ohms, and if you wire it in parallel you will go below the amp's lower impedance limit. )

This is what 1 person has told me about the wiring of the amp to the speakers. Does anyone else agree with this or would this not be the best way. I have also had a person suggest getting the Massive Audio NX2 amp for my wife.

You will be dipping below the suggested minimum stable impedance for that amp. Do u have access to a DVOM to test impedance across the actual speakers? Most amps are fine unless severely overloaded, but u could possibly lie in danger territory.

? I'm not sure how it'd work, but u could wire a heavy duty resistor inline with each speaker to up the total impedance. ? Anybody feel free to let me (us all) know if this wouldn't work and why.

Series would def be safer, but u would cut amplifier output. I'd try series first, tune the amp, take the bike for a ride with the faring off and see if it's loud enough. If it is, the amp won't be struggling to make the power and your THD rating will prob be lower. Though even the 2ohm THD is probably much lower than we can hear.

Wiring in a resistor is a waste of power.

Order the right amp for the speakers or the right speakers for the amp.

This is the perfect reason you need go to a pro, get them to advise you what to do, buy your stuff from them, and pay the minor premium they will ask to make sure you don't mess up your bike.
