Just got used JBL speakers... amp Q

I just took a pair of JBL GTO528 5 1/4" 2-way speakers off of my buddy for like 40 bucks. said he got them from bestbuy but needed money again so i helped him out. i have the speakers wired to my deck right now and im sure they wont be at their potential without an amp (which i have), but they still distort with the little power my deck provides them with. so my question is, if i amp them, could they be louder but at the same time not distort at such low volumes... or maybe i just need more speakers. my caravan is only a 4 speaker car

any help is appreciated

your alpine should have a setting named HPF (high pass filter) built into the deck. change it to 80hz... this will prevent the speakers playing anything below 80hz with full volume. that may be why the speakers are distorting

this will make the greatest difference if you haven't already done it.

using the amp will also make a difference, unless your speakers are bottoming out, the distortion if most likely caused from clipping. speakers just reproduce the signal going into them, if that signal is distorted , so will be the sound. try hooking up your amp and feeding them some cleaner power.

doesn't seem as though you have a HPF option on your deck. my best advice is to turn your bass setting down a bit (eg -2) and adjust your subwoofer level from there.

btw, incase you dont have the manual for your deck:
