Reciently I installed a set of kicker 10 inch cvrs. Before I had a crappy kappa perfect 12. Im using 4 gauge power and ground wire with 8 gauge between distro block and amps. My sub amp is a Rockford fosgate 501bd, and I also have a jbl cs60.4

I keep blowing the 30 amp fuse on the subwoofer side of the distro block. What should I do? My ground is fine, I fastened it to my seatbelt bolt (after cleaning it nicely) These kicker subs are a huge step up from what I had before, a combined 800rms.

Some advise would be nice, as I have gone through 2 fuses already and I am getting sick of it.

 

try a bigger fuse say an 80 or 100

 

Basically, you have to take in account of the fuses on the amps. If both of your amps have 40 amp fuses each, then a 30 will definately blow when the juice starts flowing. Try a fuse that is 75% of the total fuse protection on the amps, that way it blows before your amp fuses, yet allows enough voltage to run your system nicely.

 

Does anybody ever look at specs?

1-You fuse to the power you make, not the rating of a woofer.

2- As previously stated I think you have under fused too

3- Oh and what is your voltage as you hit? If your voltage isn't keeping up then the path to equipment damage is near. If the voltage is dropping than you need more power (batteries not a capacitor). The point of a fuse is to prevent damage, and low voltage can also cause damage.

4- What are your amplifiers rated at into the impedance you are feeding them... in other words haw much power is the amp making. We know it is more than the 30 amp power fuse can handle. The sum of the amps fusing would work... but this is a better way to fuse the amp (I bet there is a manufacturers owners manual that would recommend a fuse size). Also you are only occasionally blowing a fuse so your listening habits suggest a smallish fuse would make you happy (50 to 60 amp as a guess), if you blew it every 10 minutes I would say your listening habits would demand a larger fuse (80 to 100 amps as a guess).

5- what type of in line fuse are you using? ANL, AGU, Midi, Maxi, mini-ANL? Not all fuses are created equal

Can I put that 100 amp fuse in my current fuse block? Or am I going to have to do a bit of rewiring?

That is an AGU fuse BTW

Why do you think you need a 100A fuse? that is 3x the power you are currently running do your homework put the correct size in otherwise the fuse block is POINTLESS.

Read my post... what is your voltage doing? if your voltage is too low and you put a big fuse in kiss your amp goodby

 

I dont know what my voltage is doing, I cant measure it. What should I do.

 

Put in a 60 or 80 amp fuse and away you go.

 

I picked up a 50 and 50 amp fuse today, I was just waiting for someone to give me the okay, that its safe to do.
