my equipment smells?

I hooked my bxi2006d amp to just one 12" premier that is dual 4 ohm i believe and the amp is supposed to power 1300 rms @ 2 ohm yet my sub is only 1000 rms @ 2 ohm

I dont have all the ***** cranked, they're about 5/8 or 3/4 the way and it smells like chlorine or a swimming pool (reminds me of) is it my voice coils burning?

it pounds pretty nice though i must admit

First off, the title says it all!!! plain and simple YOUR SMELLS!! lol, jk!
With the gains and bass boost that high, im certain you are getting distortion through, and I imagine you didn't do a break in on your sub(play it at lower levels so it breaks in) and just went gung ho! I do this as well, and my car usually stink for a few weeks of burning!! It will go away, eventually! will it ruin your sub? with your gains that high, its a possibility, im sure there will also be past threads on this topic if you use the search button, or in a lil while you will get a few posts.

first off admin sorry about the title I somewhat have a swearing problem.

I figured I shouldn't have to break the sub in since it was being used for 6 months or so on an amp with 400 rms 750 peak. True it hasn't seen 1000 rms so maybe that part of the coils are still brand new?

I guess if it is hurting my sub it doesnt matter because I have 2 new ones coming.

Another question, how do I break them in? I could see using a bass tester from THX that goes deeper and deeper with 3-4 seconds of each frequency of bass?

well if you played it for a few months with 400wrms ish,, That would break it in(alot of people DONT break in subs) I was always taught that if you want it to last, you break it in by NOT beating the hell out of it for a few months and then go all out after a certain amount of hours, I know (I learned this from a member on the board) an alpine Type X sub, should be broken in for 40 hours, low volume, some low extension on bass notes, but be prepared for smells to come out!! I learned this one the hard way as this was the SMELLIEST subwoofer I have EVER owned! I thought I broke it, he laughed at me for quite some time(waiting for mao to post now...) but after that period, it just went away and I gave it probably 1700wrms, it got loud, and didn't smell, weird I know, but true story But like mentioned, alot of people don't believe in breaking in there woofers!! I personally do, but I ALWAYS give them a good beating for there first 2 or so hours of owning

yeah 6 months at 400 rms 750 peak

I figured but it still smelt ****ed up last night and I was a little scared more for my amp than my sub though, but I figured 1300 rms to a 1000 rms sub would over load it?

Find out if it is your sub or your amp.

Making an amp stink is a lot harder than burning up a sub, trust me on this one

Your coils are probably getting hotter than they had been previously and releasing some odors, but you may also be going into distortion with your gains set like that.

I would advise googling any one of several gain setting tutorials and checking the settings.

Dukk its sLurrey =p

And ya stuff stinks there.

I made my Tsunami 12 stink, pulled it and the whole motor was pretty warm, Kind of scared me but then I though if i blow a 1600 rated RMS sub on a 1100 rms amp it wasn't meant to be and buy something else

Side note Bassotronics-Bass i love you digs pretty deep
