Need some help for a new subwoofer!

Hello evryone. I'm new to you're forum. I'm planing to get a sound system for my Toyota Celica this winter. I'm going to look on some website, even ebay for subwoofer and amp. I'm trying to build a subwoofer kit for my daily driver. If you know any good website where i can buy car audio equiement let me know them.

I'm actually working on a small project. One of my friend took and old amp he had. And he is powering two 12" Dual subwoofer with 75 watt rms each, these subwoofer are quite cheap but in a house it pound quite hard.

I got a Stereo sound system wich has a 8" ported subwoofer. Subwoofer is 8 ohm, 120watt rms, 240watt peak. I know the amp can handle a little bit more power but it cannot handle 4 ohm. The voice-coil of the subwoofer has burned. I turned it too-loud i think . So what i want to do is to get a car subwoofer because they are relativly inexpensive for what you get and you can build any box design.

I'm actually looking for two 4 ohm subwoofer or 1 DVC (4+4 ohm) Subwoofer. That can support to be underpowered (120watt rms, into 8 ohm). 10 inch or bigger. I've looked on many website and i did not found much sub that was interessting. I'd want a sub with a good sensitivity (something like 90-95). I use this kit mainly for party with friend so it play mostly Rap and techno music. I dont want to spend 200$ on a subwoofer. So the cheaper the better but i still want to keep a decent sound.

Would it be better to get 2 sub or 1 DVC sub?

I know it will not hit 170 SPL but that not the point. I want the bass to hit a bit harder than the old too small subwoofer. The box size or design is not much a problem.

If you could help me finding a good subwoofer and if you can also recommand me a few website where i can buy car audio it would be nice!

I know it's a lot of question at once but still try to answer them pleas

Thanx too all people that are going to answer this thread!
and sorry if my english sound a bit weird it's not my first langue.

I've found on RockFord Fosgate website that they actually make 8 ohm SVC subwoofer. P1S815 or P1S812 (respectivly 15 and 12 inch). 200 watt rms for the 15" and 150 watt rms for 12". Senvitivy only 87-86 SPL... But the price sound's good and the are not too powerfull for the amp. What do you think about these sub? Are they good? Do you have any other suggestion ?

The amplifier determines what the output power is, not the subwoofer. But it doesn't depend on the resistance its getting from the subwoofer.

What is the make and model of the amplifier you're using in this setup? You could get two 4 ohm single voice coil subwoofers, and wire them in series to give that amp an 8 ohm load... Is this a home stereo receiver/amplifier? Most car amplifiers can operate on a 4 ohm load.

I think you have two things going on... first, you want a decent sub and amp setup for your car, and secondly you want a sub to work with your home receiver. Do I understand that correctly?

Let us know what your budget is.

The Pioneer Premiere sub will do this for you. I am not at the shop right now but IIRC, the power handling is 350-400w rms and it is a dual 4 ohm coil. It is also below your $200 ceiling.

The basic Bassworx subs will work for you as well. They are inexpensive and carry a 2 year replacement warranty. Power handling is 250w rms for the 12" and single 4 ohm coil.

1 - Yeah that mostly what i'm looking for. I'm building a decent subwoofer setup kit for my daily driver car. And i'm also planing to replace my home stereo subwoofer. I think i will look for some two 10 inch subwoofer since i don't have much space in my trunk, i got a normal sized spare tire and it take alot of space, most dual 10" ported box fit in my trunk. I was looking for some 300-450 watt rms sub range something between 150-200$ each sub. with a good amp. I dont want to break spl record but just to add some life in my music. I play anything in my car from hardcore, metal to techno and rap, so i want versatil subwoofer.

2 - The Stereo is a Logitech Z-2300 (200 watt rms, 400 watt peak). It got it about 3-4 years ago. The warranty is only 2 years. And i've burned the subwoofer coil. I had the stock satellite speaker wich were 70 DB sensitivy and remplaced them with better satellite from an old sound system. The new satellite are 88 DB sensitivy, the are 2 way instead of 1 way and same wattage. The play much better but also much louder. Since this system is quite good and i love it. I want to remplace the stock 8" 120 watt rms, 240 watt peak and 8 ohm sub for a good kit of 2 4 ohm subwoofer or 1 8 ohm subwoofer with possibly a better sensitivy than the stock one. The stock sub enclose is also to small for the sub wich make is sound too much boomy. I don't want to spend 200$ on this subwoofer so the less expensive the better it will be.

I've seen that Phoenix Gold Ryval V12D is 150 watt rms, 600 watt peak, dual 4 ohm and 93 SPL wich is good. Is this subwoofer a good one? What you think about it.

3 - Also if someone know a good website or program to calculate tuning frequency of subwoofer box can you tell me pleas.

Thanx All!

Pioneer Premiere subs still will do this for you, the TSW1007D4. They are dual 4ohm coil, 350w rms power handling and priced well. They also include a recommended box requirement for both sealed and ported that will allow you to minimize the work you must do. Price on a pair of them would be about the $230 mark inc. gst + shipping.

The box you make for them is going to have way more to do with output that the sensitivity ever will. Do not get hung up on sensitivity. The loudest subs in the car audio industry are not sensitive at all. Here is a link to the 2007 record holder, 88db sensitivity.

I would get the Pioneer SPL 10" for daily driver , you can find one at Onlinecarstereo.Com - Wholesale Car Audio/Stereo Deals At Bargain Prices its a great site I've bought stuff from there three times and never had a problem. They will ask for your credit card copy and id if the order is more then 400$.

You can find the 10" Pioneer for 128$ or around that its very good and it can handle 600 RMS or more. By the way these are the old SPL series which are way better then the new one's. Pioneer Premier TS-W2502SPL Subwoofers

If you want SQ go with 10" and those SPL Series are rare nowadays. DO NOT BUY THEN OFF EBAY

Wow, I really screwed that sentence up.

Online Car Stereo Website

As King_Kong mentioned, that`s a good site. However, I wouldn`t buy anything from them. They way our dollar is going right now, you wouldn`t save a dime. But its great for comparing items in your price range.

You can also check out the Woofers Etc. Website. Its pretty much the same thing, except they carry a couple different brands that might work for you.

Regardless of what peaks your interest, verify the information at the manufacturers own website. There, you should also be able to find any retailers of that brand that might be close to home.

Yeah your right when i ordered my stuff from there , it said 1442$ US and when i converted it to Canadian Dollar it was 1700$ something . Another thing is the custom charges. I paid 290$ for that so it wasn't a good deal but its better then buying of stores who want to rip your pockets right out.
