Noises from my head unit

Hello Folks,

Im new on here and first posts need to get out of the way. I am having an issue with noises from my head unit coming through in my subs. My Head unit is a Pioneer, dont have model at the moment, but just the low ball brand, and my subs are Alpine Type E shallow mount subs. I have a 300 Watt amp running the subs. i did have an old 1000 watt amp running my speakers as well. Now, when i set all of this up in my truck to begin with i had zero problems. These things hit so hard you couldn't sit in my truck too long. Well one day i had an issue with my spark plugs, one of my wires caught my engine block and burnt through. I fixed that and next day i went and messed with my wires. I wanted to hide the wires and get them out of my way. I work 70 hours a week, so i don't have a lot of time to play around unfortunately. Now, i sliced some of the carpeting to hide the wire under, and now my problems start. When i got the truck i had to run my own power wire, ground wire and accessory for the head unit. For the sub amp i have it grounded right to the chassis and everything ran like it should. Like i said, everything was running beautifully. The day i sliced my carpet was when i had problems. everyone told me it has nothing to do with it, but i don't know. At first i had horrible engine noise, when i turned the truck on you could hear the alternator whine. I grounded the amp better and that seemed to go away. Now what kind of noise i get is head unit related. When you change the track on a cd you hear the noise in the subs. And also, When i change the amp to high frequency you hear it in my speakers....they aren't even running through the amp. Its hard to get good bass obviously because of the noise and distortion, and somehow the amp controls my speakers as well???? My wires are not the best. My signal wire seems to maybe be close to worn out, maybe thats an issue. My RCA's are good and my power and ground are good, or so i think. Now i just wanna say this isn't a post for people to bash my system. I work hard and listen harder. I don't have time or money to spend and have to work with what i have. So please don't say how crappy my stuff is. This was working just fine until something went wrong. I'm just trying to figure out what went wrong and where. Any help in the matter is greatly appreciated and thanks for the time to help.

When you regrounded the amp, did you unhook the power wire and RCA cables first?

The noise you are hearing is because the RCA ground in the deck has been fried. Pioneer decks are super touchy.

Try grounding the outer ring on the RCA to the chassis of the deck.

When i hooked up the amp i did the ground first, power second and signal last. Then i hooked up the RCA cables. BUT......when i said my spark plug wire hit my engine block it did shut off my head unit. I had to unplug and replug it in and it worked. Maybe this was the issue? I will definitely try that though and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the input.

Ill definitely have to try that. Would this maybe be part of the problem with my amp controlling my speakers? when i change the frequency on the amp it changes the speakers as well? Maybe, maybe not.

My pioneer deck is the same way. Unbelievable noise with the RCAs ungrounded, and clears right up when I throw a bit of wire on them.

Alright guys. First i re grounded my head unit, and that worked a smidge. Then this morning i ran those wires on the back of my Head unit and it cleared up all the little noises. Thanks alot for all the help, i appreciate it alot. Now maybe i can run the system the way i had it previous and get some real noise going.

Thanks
