Ohm confusion?

Ok I been researching ohms and parelle and series circuits and everything and I came across a few questions.

I have a JBL that runs 1200 watts 350 watts rms at 4 ohms. It has a duel voice coil.

Now I know about having the correct amp to run the ohms and the correct wattage and battery and alternator and everything but here are my questions.

When I first figured out about ohms I had the instructions for the jbl and I could have sworn it had 1200watts 4 ohms or something else at 1 ohm?

If I switched this over would it be 1 ohm or did I mis read it and it will be at 2 ohms? I dont have the instructions anymore so I cant remember what it said.

I know HOW to change it over to the lower ohms and I know I need a better amp first but would it be indeed at 1 ohm or at 2 ohms? I swore it said 1 ohm but I was wondering if that even made sense?

Also when I put the ohms down does the wattage go up or down? For the Rms and the regular wattage?

Does the wattage go up or down on the sub or the amp?

Thanks for any help.

Maybe if there was a Ohm blog someone could show me that will actually help? I have found a few but they are just more confusing. I am just learning so I need more like a "Ohms for Dummies" book or soemthing. lol

Anyways thanks

You can wire your subwoofer to either 2 ohms or 8 ohms.

The power handling of the woofer stays the same at either of those loads.

That power of the amp will go up the lower the ohm load. SOme amps are not built to take anything lower than a 2 ohm final load so be sure what your amp can handle

But my sub never said anything about 8 ohms. IT said it ran at 4 ohms when connected series and I thought it said 1 ohms at parelle. I am just wondering if this sounds correct to any other people?

if thats true, then it's a dual 2ohm coil setup not a dual 4 ohm coil setup.

series will get you 4 ohms (2+2=4)
parallel will get you 1 ohm (2/2=1)

That does sound correct.

I want to put the JBL into the Jetta someday and switch it over to 1 ohm. Would that be a wise idea?
Yes I know I will need to get a proper mono amp that runs at 1 ohm that can run all day.

But does the wattage go up or down depending on the different ohms? OR does it stay the same?

Also does anyone know of a good amp that will power this at 1 ohm for some good quality bass?

Thanks.

What happens is a ohm is a measure of resistance, resistance like a man running into the wind, picture 4 ohm to be really strong wind and 2 ohm to be less wind making it easyier for the guy to run? Well the amp has it easier to put out more potential when its not being slaped in the face with resistance to answer your question the lower the ohm the more power you can get from the amp..HIH

Its a JBL GTO1202D 300Watts RMS 1200Watts Peak.

But today it started to mess up pretty badly. Afet I took it out of its box and put it back in it wouldnt work unless I pushed in on it.

So I took it out and then lifted up on the cone and it started to work great again so I put it back in its box and was playing it.

It was playing fine and then once again it stopped. But this time I couldnt get it to make any noice at all. So I took it out and tried lifting the cone and pushing on it and nothing.

So I hooked it up to set at 1 ohm just to see if that would work and sure enough it did. But it wouldnt work back at its regular settings?

So is this sub f*cked now or something? It has done this before but always staretd up again.

It sits behind the seat of my truck and hit agaisnt the seat a bit sometimes. Is this why?
Also I put insulation in the box because people told me that kind of tricks the sub into making it think it has more air then it actually does? Was that a bad idea?

Also it doesnt sound all the great running at 1 0hm off that amp I got for it I dunno if its because of the amp or did I blow a coil and its only running of one now?

Thanks

Sub hitting the seat = buy new sub.
