I am running off theoretical and practical knowledge BUT there are several on here who have done a lot of SPL and probably have tried a lot of things and learned through trial and error what to do and what not to do.

Every connection needs to be as high a quality as possible (tight!!!) I recommend ring terminals and I must repeat my recommendation for buss bars, they can easily provide as much current as your system can make (there are formulas available on line for this) but it can out perform multiple runs of 0 gauge wire for less money

This is good logic. While the lower drawing in the first post has the potential to cause a charge/discharge imbalance, this is rendered inconsequential by using an appropriate gauge.

In the high surge-current world of competition it may help to use the upper drawing. I would be surprised if it made a tangible difference.

 

The difference is that on the first we have one good and one bad, and on the second both are "leveled to the bad".

The current flowing through the wire creates a voltage drop, and minimal voltage difference = different charge level.

My batteries are connected to the amps like that, and I actually measured the difference in both ways, and there is a difference on the charging and discharging, and of course, you need to measure under load, without load the voltage will be the same.
