partially melted fuse, now amp whispers?!?

Hello, newbie here...

so my amp all of a sudden cut out, then on then out....noticed the fuse was alittle melted so i replaced it. Now if i turn the volume past like 10 (0-50 potential) it cuts in and out... the gain is damn near off, which helped abit, but caused no boom boom....the amp heats up quite abit... could it be worn out, is there anything i can replace on the circuit board to fix this? could it need a smaller fuse? lol i cant afford another amp right now lol could i add to the heatsink, to help cooling?

any knowledge would be great!!!

Sounds like your fuse didnt do its job! ...sounds like your amp is damaged and no you cannot add to the heatsink to help cooling!

As far as your question is there anything you can replace on the circuit board to fix this? yes, absolutely, replace the damaged components and you are set!

Before you deem it as "fried" get a MM and check the speaker wires coming into the amps and make sure they have the proper impedance.

Take the wires off of the amp for this.

you have a bad connection either on the ground or the positive wire.

could be at the battery, fuse, amp or where the amp is grounded to.

could be just a bad/weak ground.

Smell the amp, if it smells like smoke, the magic smoke that makes it work is no longer where it is supposed to be. Means, time to replace the amp. Then you need to figure out why it happened....

Good advice! take the amp and have it bench tested somewhere, once you confirm it is damaged you will need to look at why it happened. Check your install and load impedence.

Ahh but as Yuli and Mr2nr mentioned why did it fail???

did the sub cause the failure OR was the wiring improper OR was it just your amplifiers time to meet Jesus?
