Melted Wire/Speaker Amp Work, Sub Doesn't
Now, first and formost, i'm not the greatest at the car audio thing, but i have a good understanding and a general idea. Now here's my issue:
This morning i got into my truck, to see that my amp was flickering into and out of protect, with the sub not working at all. I took out my allen keys, re did everything, checked under the hood and all was good. So i turn the sub off and drive to work, thinking i'd fix it here or at home later with my buddy who knows alot more than me. The speakers cut out once or twice at 4/5 of what i usually play it, but i turned it down and it was fine. I get to work and decide to do another check under the hood, and the wire is melted and charred into the fuse holder.
I have two batteries in the back with a speaker amp (old school alpine) and a sub amp (memphis 16-1500D). I am trying to shove 0 gauge into the memphis but that's just until i get a new one soon. The speakers work, so i know power is getting back there, even with this wiring melted. Is the amp pwned? Does a fuse on the amp need to be replaced? Does the wire affect the sub amp but not the speaker? What is happening?
Any input and help is greatly appreciated; thanks in advance.

First off, disconnect the power wire from all your batteries before you burn your truck to the ground. Then take your truck to someone that knows what they are doing. I'm not trying to be mean, I just wouldn't want to hear that your truck burnt up and/or your audio equipment got destroyed more than it may already be.

well i know what i'm doing. i figure that it's because the batteries have too much current pull for the 0 gauge. If i were to put another run from the front to the back, or get, let's say the 0 gauge colossus as opposed to the regular. Could that help? It's working now, but i switched it up with old 8 gauge just for speakers w/o batts.

You are correct. If you're burning your power cable there is a problem with excessive current draw. Make sure that your fuse holder or cable isn't shorting to ground somehow. Check that your amp connections are not touching the chassis of the amplifier (or themselves), only the power terminals. Check that your batteries have not been damaged by a shorted cell or are low on water.
Hope this helps!
