Playing 1 vc on DVC SUB??

I just bought a Stroker DVC but the guy was running only 1 voicecoil before, would that damage the sub? Any help please. Thanks

all the coils do is change your impedance so you can have different configs for your amps but if your sub was made with 2 coils i would run them both

A common misconception with regard to dual voice coil speakers is the assumption that nothing changes if you power only one of the voice coils. With only one coil hooked up, a dual voice coil speaker will suffer a loss in reference efficiency of about 3dB (only half the coil windings are being energized) as well as a significant shift in its Thiele/Small parameters. This renders any enclosure calculations inaccurate unless you remeasure the speakers parameters with only one coil hooked up. Failure to account for the different parameters of a dual voice coil speaker with only one coil powered can result in very poor performance.

If he did not over drive the sub, then no there is no dammage to running just one voice coil. But that goes for any sub SVC or DVC

There's no danger to driving only one coil. both coils, since they are in contact with each other, will dissipate heat, which means that the power rating does not significantly decrease, and the impedance difference is the biggest change.

Also, because you're not using both coils the MMS/EMF ratio will change slightly, and lower your FS (resonant frequency of the driver) slightly.

some high end companies like DLS from sweden, actually recommend runing only one coil on their DVC subs in sealed enclosures.

there will be no 3 dB loss, unless you're powering the sub with 1/2 the power because you're using an amp that will handle the load of both coils in parallel.
