you dont count the area of the face you count the area of the port.
To figure out length go to Welcome to Precision Sound Products! they have a calculator

4" is 2"x2"x3.14 = 12.56 sq. in.
6" is 3"x3"x3.14 = 28.26 sq. in.
The flare is not calculated as any more than the tube being its based on overall volume of the tube, the length will determine your tuning.
Hope this helps

See I am want to take my old 126sq inch slot port and match it to round flared ports. So how would be best to go about this?Length changes and it will in my round ports as well.
#7
It will depend on your box volume (Cubic feet)
What size is your box internal?
What length is your current port as its using up internal space also.
How many ports are you looking to put in or have room for in your box?
Need more info to help with suggestions

box is 8.792cu ft. int.(old box and new box)
port length changes(old box and new box)
Port 126sq in area always the same(old box)
I have room for 4 4" or 4 6"(In new box)
My tuning will change for what I am doing with it.
Tune will be between 32Hz and 64Hz depending

Based on 8.8 cu .ft. internal
Well four 6" will give you 113 sq. inches
4-6" @ 5.5" long roughly will tune to 64hz this is taking into account there area if put inside the box (flush outside)
4-6" @ 35" long to try to tune to 32hz which may not be feasible, depending on box size
So you need to figure out whether your going for pure spl or daily also, you might be better staying with a rectangle port.

"Well four 6" will give you 113 sq. inches"
So to give the same effect the slot port gave I would have to stay close in the sq. inches?
"4-6" @ 35" long to try to tune to 32hz which may not be feasible, depending on box size"
35" long is more then feasible
"So you need to figure out whether your going for pure spl or daily also, you might be better staying with a rectangle port."
I would have to do two(one on each side of the sub)and I want variable tuning so this is not to good of an option. The port will come out of the box about 1" on to my rear deck
