Problems plz help! im clueless

Ok I have a 15 inch Kicker L5, Dual 4ohm voice coils, Ive been running it on 2 Sony 1252GTRs for the past six months with no problems, one day my amps went into protects and I havnt got the 2 of them working together since, I Tried boths amps by themselves on each coil and they work find its as soon as I hook each of them up to there own coil that they go into protect ,Ive tried everything and I have no ideas what it could be any ideas? .I know the amps are cheap and htere just gettin me buy lol i should of known when i bought them, thanx

have you jumped a car or did your battery almost die on you about the same time your amp went nfg?

nope the one amp went into protect then after 10 mins they both did my power is fine its capped 1 farad and its all 4 gauge wiring

Is it possible the sub is bad, maybe the coils touching eachother ? Just a guess...

zzzzzzz 07-24-2008 07:14 PM

bad NEG or bad sub but i would look at neg 1st

sx4life 07-24-2008 08:24 PM

mind if I ask why are u running 2- 2channel amps to one sub, and how??? they are not strapable

turboeeyore 07-24-2008 09:19 PM

get a ohm meter and hook one probe to the neg. of one coil and one probe to the other neg. terminal and see if theres resistance, i bet the coils have shorted together.

dirtskater 07-24-2008 10:23 PM

both 2 channels amps are bridged, anyways i used a multi meter on both coils and there both reading fine, now when i hook both coils up to the one amp it works fines , so i dont think they shorted together? and ive also taken the sub completely out of the box to look and i dont see anything wrong, ive checked my grounds and there all perfect , anymore ideas?

dirtskater 07-24-2008 10:25 PM

btw ur saying that if i use the multimeter and hook on side up to neg on one coil and hook the other side up to the neg on the other coil , if there resistance its shorted togethers? which meens the sub is bad? or is that fixable?

zzzzzzz 07-24-2008 11:22 PM

if you use your multimeter , hook on side up to neg on one coil and the othere to + you will get your ohm of your VC
if you wire it 2ohm vc to 2 ohm vc then you will have 2 wires if you use your multimeter to the 2 wires you will get an ohm # if it is too low your amp might go into protect

turboeeyore 07-25-2008 08:54 AM

if you get resistance between the 2 neg then that would mean they are touching internally, and each amp is fighting each other, is each amp seeing 2 ohm( per voicecoil) and if you hook a amp up by itself to both coils( 1 or 4 ohm) 4 ohm isn't enough of a load for the amp to work, so it won't go into protect. and it probabally wont turn on at 1 ohm. so when you try each amp by itself your changing the final ohm into the amp, like zzzzzzz said, it's dropping too low in impedence, wiring 2 amps in one sub thats not strapple is hit or miss, it's really hard to tune perfectly and have it last.

dirtskater 07-25-2008 11:47 AM

okay so itested both coils and there reading 3.5-3.6 ohms, anyways i took the probe and put one on each negative of each coil and there is resistance 16ohms does this mean anything? also btw i hook one amp up 2 both coils it works fine just the amp shuts off after 20 mins b/c itsnot ment to take 2ohm load ? any other ideas?

dirtskater 07-25-2008 11:50 AM

ic what u mean thanx alot for the advice
so i should probably just buy a better amp (d class mono) and wire it in parralell to create a 2 ohm load? b/c 2 amps isnt gonna do me anygood
