Question Right sub box?

So a few months ago i bought a dual 10" kicker competition subs w/ box. A few weeks ago i was in a crash, and the box is basically trash, but the subs are still fine. My oldest brother who i think worked in car audio says i should get a Kicker comp box, or at least a higher quality box. He found one online at www.woofersect.com for $140. My other brother, though, says i dont have to worry about the quality of the box because they're not really high end subs (they cost me about $300) and that the $80 sub box i saw at my local visions store is fine.
I did a quick bit of research and the box i saw online for $140 is just over the minimum volume needed for the subs, which my oldest brother says is what i would need

so basically my question is, do i need to spend the $140 for a good sub box (plus S/H) or will the $80 from Visions be perfectly fine for my 2x10" Kicker comp subs?

For $150 you should be able to get a box built for you, and then you don't have to worry about prefab quality and tuning issues.

This is a question about satisfaction and how much should you spend to be satisfied.

If you are picky on the Sound Quality of the system, or you HEAR a lot of faults in yours or others sub-bass then you need to spend whatever it takes to make yourself happy with an SQL box.

If you want to be as loud as possible for competition purposes and to hell with the sound of the box on music you would want an SPL fart box.

If you want a mix of good sound and volume you may want another box altogether.

My point is you could be happy spending $80 or miserable after spending $200, get the right box for YOUR needs/wants. I had a $50 Qform box that was great all around and I gave it up for a $800 custom glass box I never liked at all. Buy the box that meets your needs inside a preferred budget (and it is OK to spend less).

I buy local BTW, from people who's boxes I have heard and therefore meet my needs (current box ~$100)

ok thanks for the answer. My oldest brother said it could ruin the subs if i dont have the proper air space or something but im not sure he knows what hes talking about. Im no audiophile by any means, just like good powerful bass in my car.

there's about 15 car audio shops in the edmonton area. check the yellow pages or ask around for a reputable shop. they will steer you in the righ direction. What kinda sound you looking for. Really clean snappy bass. Loose floopy nightclub bass, rediculously loud, but you can't tell 1 bass from the other.?

It would probably help him out if you posted all the specs on the sub to save him going to Kickers website and wading through it. Just a thought.
