Speaker sizes?

Hello again all,

Soo I cant seem to find any information on this anywhere else so I thought I would ask here.

What size are the speakers in a 2001 Mazda Tribute? I took off the covers and "measured" and they look to be about a 5 x 7 or so. If that doesnt sound right, can anyone correct me?

If that IS the case, Id like a few suggestions.

Id like to put components in the front. Generally, from what I have seen anyway, they usually only come with a round midrange and a tweeter. On a typical 5" round midrange, is the whole pattern the same as it would be on a 5x7? Or will I have to start modifying the speaker mounts in the doors?

As well ... Im not really looking for "high end" equipment. Just some decent stuff. Is MTX equipment worth the money? There is a sale here in town for a TC4000.4 for $249. That a good price for what you get?

Thanks a bunch in advance.
LG

you have 6x8 speakers , front and rear . i would suggest using a scosche sa68 adapter. this will allow you to put a 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 " speaker in the factory location . i really like the hertz line of speakers . their coaxials sound better than many of the components on the market , in my opinion . if you really want the components , hertz have them as well . good luck man .

You can go many ways with your speaker choice. You have the option of a respectable 5x7" or 6x8" coax or for improved tonal response, a pointsource speaker. Another option is to use a mounting adaptor made of ABS and use a 6.75" component set (provided you have a separate location to mount the tweeter) or a 6.75" pointsource speaker. I make my mounting templates from 1/4" black abs as it is far stonger than the cheap stuff that bends, making it out of ABS also makes it waterproof (unlike adaptors made from mdf). For the amplifier choice, will you be adding a sub later on down the road? Lots of options on amplifiers depending on your budget.

Eclipse makes some great speakers in the pointsource and coax line, same with Morel if you are after a darn good speaker.

Wow, thanks a ton. Some great information here. Love that ebay link.

The only thing that I still am unsure about is MTX equipment. I cant really afford a top of the line rig. I just want something that will sound decent with a little volume .. I have no intention of breaking any records or hitting 150 db :P So I had mentioned above that there is a MTX Thunder 400.4 amp on sale at my local future shop. Just curious to know if their products are worth the money or are they considered "meh .. boring."

Basically, I have a Pioneer deck (DEH3900 I believe .. not positive). In the end, Id like to have components up front, 6x8's in the rear doors, and one amp (around 400 watts or so) powering them. I figure combined with the deck, that should give me some decent volume.

Over time, I will add another amp and a sub. Thats going to be my biggest issue. I mentioned in another thread that I travel a lot so I dont want to sacrifice much cargo area so a sub will be difficult. I did see a webpage where some dude build an enclosure for a sub AND amp and put it in the spare tire well. Of course, he didnt explain how he did it and I cant even fathom how he would have done it. Any ideas on how to do that? Also gotta figure out what to do with the spare tire .. Im thinking a roof rack

EDIT: Here is the link I was mentioning above ...
