just wondering if someone could tell me the impedance of my stock speakers in my 1998 plymouth voyager. it's cold and i won't have the time to check for another week or two so i was wondering if someone could tell me.

also is it bad to change the impedance? a friend of mine is getting me some replacement 5-1/4''s for the dash and 6x9''s for the back but if they happen to be different than whats in there is that bad for my head unit?

usually stock is either 4, 8, or 16 ohms.

if i had to guess, they are 8 ohms

lol thanks mike, but money is tight. i have the wood all cut up and ready to be assembled for my new subs' box but then i had to cut hours at work for school, and this recession isn't helping much so theres no subs i was thinking of using my old amp or even a really old amp from my other car but i want to see how things go first.

still gotta do my big 3 and then with the new subs (whenever they come) see if another battery is necessary and then i can check the sound quality and see if my bass drowns everything out

plus i've also got two 4'' 4 ohm 3 watt speakers from an old boom box i was going to mount in the front pillars, so i'm hoping that will help with clarity. from hooking them up to my stereo in my room they get stinkin loud for their size with no distortion. i'd say they're as good as the 6.5'' speakers i got that are rated for way more power, just those have better bass reproduction, but with 4'' i don't expect anything but highs

I'd advise against putting 2 Ohm speakers on a deck meant for 4 Ohm load.

does your factory system have an amp at all?....I know that some mid to premium Chrysler systems have factory 2 Ohm systems.

no factory amp. the 2 ohm speakers would be the infinity reference (buddy works at futureshop), but the description on the FS site says

if it was an amp i wouldn't care so much, but the deck is supposed to run 4ohm or 8 ohm speakers, so does that mean that FS/Infinity are liars? lol
