Sub selection

Hi all im new to this forum and would like peoples opinion on what sub to buy
i currently have a clarion dvc sub with one coil blown running off my Orion 1200d amplifier. I was thinking of getting a 2Ohm dvc sub to maximize the orions output, what do you all think , what should i buy?

You have a budget in mind?

You could also get two 12" subs. 2 DVC4's, everything wired in parallel, to get you that 1 ohm load. Or 2 SVC2's, also. There's more than enough power there to run two decent subs.

From what I've learned on my short time on this forum is that most of the guys who know what they're talking about will advise you to get a quality built enclosure for whatever woofer you decide to get. A poorly built/matched enclosure can ruin a great sub . Whereas a custom built box can optimize a lesser sub. Think about spending less on the sub, to leave room for a good enclosure to get the most out of your investment.

Check out PoundthatSound. I've linked to one of his vendor threads on this forum.

I don't have any experience with amps as large as yours, or the subs you'd likely hook up to it... so you shouldn't listen to me.

But you can check out Online Car Stereo's site. That way you can browse through a lot of options at the same time. Just make sure to verify the specs with the actual manufacturers' site.

There's at least a dozen different subs I've seen recommended, and I've never even heard of them before. Seems to be different brands available out in the west.

Speaking of online car stereo I was looking there the other day and was kind of leaning towards a Pioneer Premier ts-w3001d2, either that or a kicker l7 but the kicker would require me buying a new box or making one.

DD3512, dual 2 ohm. Warranty in Canada, proven solid performer. I am not at the store right now so I can't nail down a price on it. 1200w rms power handling that can take waaaay more than it was designed for.

An update on the online car stereo Pioneer deal. What looked like a deal is actually far from it. Once you go to the checkout and hit the international to Canada, it adds brokerage and shipping of close to $130.00 to it. Add on top of that the $ conversion as our $ is in le toilet right now, then add GST as well. Couple it with no warranty in Canada and it is far from a deal any more.

Yeah, I only recommended using OnlineCarStereo as a means for finding information rather quickly. There are a lot to browse through.

I wouldn't suggest purchasing anything from them.

x2 for the DD3512 from MR2NR...extremely good sub that will easily handle the power you have, and make the most of it.

So, it is outside of your budget, what is your budget? I can find something that is going to work for you but it is not even going to be close to the level of performance of this subwoofer. You are trying to get maximum output from the amp, this is telling me that you plan on using it as it was designed for. Given the sub is at the end of the road, it is the one item that you should ensure, can endure.... the DD is well known to do just that.

I appreciate your help and would prefer to buy a sub that is high end like the DD but
my accountant(wife) says that the DD is too much money , I was looking in the range of 250-300

Thanks again
