testing amplifiers

just wondering, does anyone know how to test the output of an amp? or anywhere in the GTA (the toronto half) can test amps? i just heard from a guy (who seemed somewhat angry) that my amp, the Crunch GP2500D is unregulated in terms of voltage handling and on 14.75 volts puts out 1700 watts rms at 1 ohm. i know right? sounds nuts, but like i said, he seemed to think i had no idea what i was talking about in saying i was slightly underpowering my subs (2 subs x 700 rms = 1400 rms, amp = 1250 @ 1 ohm, difference of 150, sounds like underpower to me )

soooo yeah, now i want to get this amp tested or test it myself, but the only way i think i would know how to do it is with an rms meter, which i don't have. if anyone can test it for me i'll appreciate it, and i'll buy you a six pack

I think I'm gonna have to come up with a new name for you Don. How about....Batman, because it seems you have some utility belt that can do everything car audio related. I guess all I need to know if you're free this weekend and what beer do you drink? (please don't say Bud Light Lime, that stuff tastes like soap)

Heres what Eric from team livewire posted when he tested them on audioforum

OK! Let me give you just a little info on the crunch amps. The GP1500D and the 2500D are rated at Max power not rms. Also these amps are unregulated so the more voltage you give them, the more power you'll get (but they do have high voltage protection around 16.4 volts). The 1500 made 857 watts at 13 volts, but a whopping 1189 at 15.5 volts. This was at 1.1 ohm reactive and all of that power is usable. The GP2500D made 1328 watts at 12.8 volts and 1704 watts at 14.75. These test were also at a 1ohm reactive. So they do more than most people would expect. Oh! The cross-overs in these amps are incredible. They have really good control over your subs. I'll tell you about the 3000 later today!

So it gives you a bit of an idea.

yeah thats what the other guy said, but I thought he was saying it himself and was upset that I was "bashing" the amp. but when I read the 1700 watts I was intrigued, which is why I'm so curious as to how much it puts out.

well I might be able to come by tomorrow around 7 or something, but if anything I'll text you if thats cool. I gotta take the little guy to his grandmother's house in Maple and then go buy a halloween costume. other than that I have no idea where to get a goat roti and doubles out there. I know a place at York, but other than that my mom makes it so I don't buy it lol
