Can someone give me the rundown on how to use a Multi Meter to see if a speaker is damaged or not.

 

it will only tell you if the coil(s) are good. Set the multi meter to ohms and test the coils for proper resistance. It can also check for continuity. That is all a multimeter will do for a speaker.

I'm having a really hard time judging if one of my tweeters are damaged. I only hear mild crackling on some songs, Just depends.

 

found out by accident once if you got the beep check (for continuity) it will also beep out of the speaker as well

 

I'd go out on a limb and say that its blown....

 

Ya it's pretty simple to tell if your speaker is blown it will sound crackled squeaky bad quality all these point to a blown speaker. Even if it's not blown but sounds bad I would suggest getting new ones anyways because it will drive you insane listening to it lol

 

I can't even tell if it's the mid of the tweeter .

Once I get my amp installed I'll tell them to put a meter on it and if it's fine I'll leave them in.

 

a woofer is easier to test because you can move the cone to see if tinsels are intermittent or if there is some vc rubbing or insulation melted. A tweeter is hard.. What are you hearing? is it only on a certain part of a particular song?
I find I often hear distortion and think that its the tweeters. It often ends up being a scratched cd that the error correction cant handle. or worse. if you are ripping your own music to mp3 or downloading there are data errors or dynamic range overloads that the playback system handles poorly.

May I suggest running some test tones? a quick search will find you test tone generation software that makes wma or simply run on your laptop an hook up to your deck's aux input. I am sure there are IPOD apps that will do it too.

 

Seems it's only on parts of particular songs, I am finding it really difficult to hear if it is damaged or not.

A test tone CD is a great idea, I will have to find one.
