USB problem--helllllpppppp

so guys, I got a pioneer deh p4000ub, I know, sickest deck ever, right? anyways, I've been using a thumb drive for the past while with no problems, especially no skipping. no idea why but my decks skip like jump rope. but yeah, back to the problem. so I also have A LOT of music, and my 8 gig usb thing is like full, so I took my g/f's 160 gig usb drive to use. so I load up all my tunes ready to rock and roll, plug it in, and nothing. now the deck keeps saying error 19, and I've tried to fix the problem as per the manual and nothing.

now, the drive lights up as if there was power to it, but there is another light to show when data is being read that flashes when plugged into a computer. that light doesn't come on when I plug into the deck

the drive came with a cord with two usb plugs like a y cable. no idea why, but it does. if anyone knows how I might remedy the situation please let me know. I don't want to have to buy an ipod.

well since we aren't at the point where 160gbs will fit in a flash drive, it's a small hdd which would require a bit more power, hence the dual usb cords, one power, one data is my guess.

as to why it would mess up your deck, i'm lost.

yeah I just figured out because its probably a 2.5'' drive it needs a little more juice to run. not sure how I'm gonna get around this unless I buy a bigger thumb drive. I was thinking of using my usb 1 to 4 way splitter but I don't see how it would help power the drive. crapppppp

decks can only read so much and its usually limited. biggest u can go i think is around 62gb 160 is quite big for a deck to read. maybe to big. if ur 8gb works still well its not a problem with the deck... its just limited..

or maybe theres just to many songs on the drive that the deck cant read all of it and sees it as an error

Format the drive in fat32 and it should work. I have used a 160gb drive in mine. Now here is the prob. The deck has to index the drive. It could take up to 2-5 min after shutdown for the music to start again.

just use a bunch of 8gb sticks and change them out as you need to. it's not like your going to ever listen to that much music on one day anyhow.

well I'm formatting the drive now. I figure its worth a try. and Spawn, just so you know, I listen to a lot of mixtapes, and as such I tend to listen to the first minute or so of a song. by the time the chorus comes on I change it.

Joell, if this doesn't work I'll let you know and we'll try the other option you suggested.
