Will my sub be underpowered?
Hello everyone,
I've heard that you want to power your sub in the upper
1/3rd of its RMS rating, is this true?
My sub is rated at 250 RMS.
My amp can only push out around 180 RMS @ 3.3 ohms, which is
what the sub impendance is once it is warmed up.
Is this enough power?? Or will the sub be at risk?
Also if it is enough power, do you think it will be loud??
I want to feel it in my chest
Thanks, Ichifunbum

yup anywere from 800-1500 wrms on a couple 12's is the easiest way, but 500rms with the right subs/enclosure would do it as well, alot in the box but 500rms is bare min imo.Do some research you will figure it out in no time, type in spl on the search engine.

You don't need 1000watts and two 12's to get decent output and that feeling in your chest. That snap in your chest is more midbass than anything just so you know.
I mean jeesh everyone's giving you all this "advice" and they don't even know what gear and enclosure you're using not to mention the vehicle and placement.
It isn't any special knowledge to know that if you don't have a ton of power you should be using efficient drivers and enclosure's. This done properly can get you more than enough output. Ahh the good old days when the great drivers averaged in the 250rms ratings.

Here is the application Hardwrkr, and thanks >o</
Hello Hardwrkr,
Here is what it is going to look like,
I have a Phoenix Gold Octane-R 10" sub
I measured it to have 3.6 ohms of resistance.
But once warmed up, the resistance goes down
to 3.3 ohms. Single voice coil.
The amp is a Phoenix Gold Octane-R 5.0:1,
it is a monoblock amp, that can give
300W rms @ 2 ohms, and 150W rms @ 4 ohms.
I will make a box, 0.5 cubic feet in volume, sealed.
And I have an 06 Ford Ranger, the sub will be
directly behind the seat, in the extra cab area.
So what do you think?
Will it be a decent sound? Is there enough power
for this application?
Thanks again Hardwrkr, if you need any more info
i will gladly reply as soon as i can.
