Listen to this song and tell me if it's something you'd listen to. This is 24 hz bass (try downloading it for higher quality). If you're going to be listening to stuff this low than you'll most definetly want a sealed box. Playing too much below a port tune is going to eventually damage a sub (unless it's an LMS-motor - don't ask lol). Some people here say that you shouldn't be playing music that goes below the port tune at all.

hmm something is wrong with that link or maybe its my internet.. youtube works but this link doesnt.

i mostly listen to rap, so young jeezy, webbie, gucci mane, tha jocker, rick ross, slim thug, and so on.. all the big bass songs

so if my box is at 29-30Hz, i should just play above it, ill set the LP to 50% and the HP to 25Hz. should do it right

The song was Yelawolf - Speak Her Sex. It's just nuts for low end.

If your box is tuned to 30hz than set the filters to not play frequencies below 35hz and above 60, 80, 100 Hz - around where the speakers are crossed at. 5hz above tune is a safe limit.

so bought the wood and its all cut out and ready to go.
this is what my final design hopefully will look like:

not sure about the cut out for the amp yet, ill have to see if the positive and negative reach the amp in that position. i might just leave the wood without cutting it and mount the amp to the back of the box (towards rear seats just like it is currently in the crappy box)

if you ask why sub facing up and port back, because if i put the sub facing either the license plate or the rear seats, it would be very tight in there including the box..
here is a pic of the trunk (2010 civic LX coupe):

if the sub is 15" + 0.75" wood from top + 0.75" from bottom + 1-2" space between the end of wood and sub..
it would look like this:

it will be over 18" and that will not fit.

please tell me what you think of the design before i actually get into work

Now that is a box, good job. Put some foam where the amp sits so it doesn't rattle. Sub up and port back is fine, that doesn't really matter, try spinning the box around with the port firing foreward to see if it's louder. Make sure that 1.75" is enough clearance, measure the sub surround height and find the xmax. I thought that trunk would be bigger. You'll like that box a lot more than the old one!

so here we go!

building the form:

double wall + rounding the sides:

inside look:

for now i just painted it black but ill probably buy the material and cover it later on..

it ended up being exactly in the dimensions i measured it to be :wheee:
the port is 4 inches wide, so i have tune freq of about 34Hz

tell me what you think!

ps. i wasnt sure if i should put pudding foam inside or not.. so i didnt lol should i?

That's awesome, you're going to get loud with that. 4 * 12 = 48 / 3 = 16" of port area per cube, and before you had like 4" lol. Big difference there. You did get 3 cubes out of it, right? Any smaller than that and you should have used a 12" foreward fire, I think it'd have been better.

I dunno what pudding foam is, do you mean polyfill? You don't need polyfill but it can help the box act bigger than it is. Foam under the mounting ring doesn't hurt, just to completely seal it.

oh that thing is banging hard! so much better!
yeah i got 3 ft^3 with the ported included
used this website for calculations http://reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html
the box is 28x23x14.25 with a 4" port
box tuned to 34Hz.

i put glue everywhere i screwed in with a bolt. and then put glue on the sides to make sure its sealed with no air leaks.. should i add a silicon strip in every attachment?

and yeah i meant polyfill, i have a firberglass one, so if i put it in, ill get more bass?
