2 2009 15.4 Orion Hcca box ideas
You should know is that i'm new to this and this is my first car audio system. I have an 03 Acura TL Type s which i'm trying to figure out what type of box i should build, how much cubic feet I need for the subs and what I should tune it at for the car? I have an HO Alternator, soundstream xxx6500 amplifier with 3 Kinetic hc2400 and a Lightning Audio 50 Farad Carbon Capacitor. Also I was reading the owners guide for the subs and it quoted
"Please Note: Due to the extremely long excursion and high temperature possibilities of this woofer, it is recommended that when the woofer is installed it be positioned so that the cone either faces upward or downward only."
What do you think is it really nessasary to mount it that way??? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

I have owned one, so heres my 2 cents. They are LOUD, EXTREMELY so if your into SPL you'll love em. Yes, for the ported boxes you have to have them up or down ( some said it was to protect the coil due to the mass of the structure). I had my 15.2 in a ported box, was hard to breaath on 1200W RMS. I switched to a sealed box( horizontal per instruction with mount kit) to try to get SQ, but really this sub isn't geared for ANYTHING resembling SQ, just a heads up. As for box, you will really need space , for 2 of these I would say around 10 cubic feet(big), with driver displacement your talking roughly 9.4 net. You will probably want to fire them up and with about 90lb each you should probably double up the top of the box ( your talking 200 pounds). Additionally be sure you use the mounting plate kit they offer and tighten well ( comes with the retail) or else you will have the box tearing itself apart, screws popping out, unwanted distorions, ect. There is a tutorial I will try to find for glue injecting the screw holes( real easy), caulk internal corners, ect as these subs torture boxes pretty good. Tuning depends on the need, so I won't even touch that one, alot of people seemed to like 30-32Hz especially in the UK forums. Again just 2 cents from a guy who owned one. Enjoy it, oh and get some ear protection..lol

No prob, best of luck with the build. Keep in mind I was REALLY specific about the mount kit and the doubling of the box. Pretty key with these subs. Mine went through 3 boxes till I learned. I made the mistake of buying prefabbed boxes at first, big mistake . Try to get 1" MDF if you can ( 3/4" is easy to get at homedepot, 1" is a bit harder to get, I amsure someone here will tell ya where to get it as well. Cheers.
