Click this link: RE Enclosure Calculator
It will help you design your own slot ported box according to your dimensions. You will want your box around 1.3 ft^3 tuned around 35hz if you want to port it (after vent and driver displacement).
If you go with a sealed box just go with around .75 ft^3 after driver displacement.

I have those subs. I use 2 of them in a 1.7 cube sealed box with 2 pounds of polyfill. These are Alpine's specs, and for me, they've worked flawlessly. The bass is tight, deep, and can get loud enough to rattle the plates in my house. Honestly, i have my subs turned way down, -9 dB's on my pxa-h701, 0 dB's on the sub level control, gain is at mid point and crossed at 60hz. if i want thump, I just have to up the sub level control, and/or cross it at 80 or 100 hz.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm curious why you have the gain set at half and the pxa 9 dB down?? Doesn't that raise the potential for noise from the amp??
Just wondering......

I like those subs in sealed boxes as well! I've found that the type r's are very good sounding subs in sealed boxes that are in the 1 cube range. While they do get much louder in ported boxes, the sound qulaity seems a little less satisfying...at least to me anyway.

Red what's up buddy? Still using that MTX amp? Anyway, as far as the noise issue, I can't hear the noise anymore than when it's set at 0 dB's, so while it may be an issue for the main speakers, it's definitely not audible on the sub system. Additionally, the amp's gains are set to maximize the pxa's output (4 volts) at 85-95% max volume so that I don't have to mess with it (much more of a PITA running to the back to adjust it everytime I change the output on the Rux controller). This way i can keep it low for most of the time, and only turn it up when i want to hammer it without having to re-adjust gain settings. The noise floor with the ai-net for me is very low, basically inaudible unless I'm in my garage late at night with the volume at 1. The controller allows me to screw with it as much as I want to...which is a lot...I love playing with settings, always have, that's why i need all my controls up front.

Hi thought I would post this here instead of making anohter thread.
I just got the same sub Type R 12" and wanted to make a sealed box. They said to make the box 13"x13"x12.5"... that seems a little small. Should I make it bigger? or just with those dimensions? Im looking for more SQ then just loudness.
Thanks alot
