Hi guys

I am new to this forum so bare with me. I am looking for information on a box i want to get for my alpine type r. I would like a SPL set up so was wondering if i should go with a sealed box. ALso, i dont really understand when you guys talk about tuning a box to a certain frequency... i have a 1997 acura EL, and am powering it with a alpine mrd-m605 amp ... any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there. Tuning a port to a specific frequency increases the output at the givin frequency, but any tones lower than the frequency of your box will be bad for your sub. I'm rather new to this myself and i am planning on building a box too. From what I have read if you want sound quality tune your box to 30-35hz, for spl 40hz. There is a program called WinISD you can enter in the info for your subs, as well as how big of a box you plan on making. And it will tell you how big of a port you need to tune it to a certain frequency. It is a fun program you should check it out. I'm sure there are others out there that can give you more indepth info than me, but thats my 2cents! good luck man.
