I built a honda with 2 of the type X's on 2 of the V12 M1000. In a ported musical box. It worked out to be like 1.62cu' per driver. I also had the woofer inverted.

I was told from a few Alpine dealers that if you don't have that woofer set up in a proper box they self distruct. Most of them were using the Type R. it is more stable.

Anyways thats what i was told. I would call down to alpine and tell them what you are looking to do and they can set you up with a reasonable box design.

Sealed boxes actully work very well with the Type X. I have mine IB right now. Great sub allround.

The type X is more suitable in smaller boxes. Internal volumes of 1.25-1.5 cu.ft ported and .8-1.0 cu.ft sealed thats including the woofer in the box. You can go a bit bigger on both by about .5-.75 cu.ft bigger just make sure you keep youre box tuning low on ported boxes to about 35-40hz.

How did you guys go about mounting and supporting the sub, i just got some 10's and they seem too heavy to mount without some kind of support.

i used to have type r's in the same box, and then calculated the box dimensions and the type x fit, so thats what i have now. but when i had the r's in i doubled the 3/4", but then i sunk the sub down and now i have about 1" to work with. would this be able to hold with big screws, and if you think so, what size screws are we talking?
