I got a few questions about box building, and im sure ill come across more, this week works really slow hours are getting cut bigtime, so im gunna start a project for my car, i kinda have the tools, but no idea where to start. Well kinda.

Anyway.

I know to use mdf but what size mdf should i start with it could be holding anywhere to a 12 inch to a 10 inch subwoofer, verticle so i imagine it needs to be strong.

Also i read somewere about using resen instead of glue or **** for the seams of the box. What should i be looking for to start out.

u need 3/4 inch mdf

use carpenter's glue or wood glue from home depot or canadian tire. use wood, floor or deck screws.

dont worry about resin or ****.

 

**** is good for filling a 'box'.

Caulk is good for filling seams of a box.

3/4" MDF. Wood glue. I used 24 thread count t-nuts and bolts to match the sub. You have to pre-drill all the screws holes. 1.5" wood screws. A speaker terminal was $6 at The Source by Circuit City. I'm sure I'm leaving stuff out. But you're looking at $70. A sheet of 3/4" MDF is half of that. If you can sell your leftovers, then you're fine.

 

lol you wont need a whole 4x8 $30 sheet of mdf for a single sub box. you'd probably be good with a 4x4 sheet.

if u have a nail gun u can use that instead of screws, then u dont need to pre drill. i dont pre drill either way but it is a recommended practice.

 

Lol tragic, I shoulda saw that coming from a mile away talking about cocking boxes etc. Lmao anyways I'm gunna go pick up the supplys tomorrow, I got to think of a design right now.

 

I wasn't able to get a 4x4 sheet at Lowes. Not that I looked around much to see who had that available.
I still have left over 3/4 from my box build. I can give you the dimension of all the pieces, if you like. I'll get rid of them for cheap. We can meet half-way between Niagara Falls and Brantford, if you're interested.
