Best box for 2x 12" Solo-Baric L5

Hey,

I'm looking at getting 2 12" solo-baric L5 subs from Kicker and was wondering if it would be better to go with ported or a sealed enclosure... I listen to mainly rap/hiphop with lots of low, long bass, so I from what I understand, a ported box would be better suited, right? If ported is the case, can somebody please point in the direction of a calculator for me to determine the dimensions I need as I will most likely be making the boxes myself. I have also heard that venting/porting it through the back panel helps bring the bass out of the trunk and into the car, so if anybody has any information on this as well, that would be great.

Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Your subs will certainly come to you with the data required to fabricate the proper enclosure. If not, talk to your dealer. Hopefully you have one If you bought off the internet, try the vendor's web page and customer help system.

Considering the music you listen too... ported 100% positive. Porting the trunk to the car is also highly recommended. Nothing crazy here, just allow air to move freely from the trunk to the passenger compartment, either through a ski bag passthrough in the rear seat, or the rear parcel panel or even through the rear fill speakers by removing them entirely if you prefer not to have any rear fill which is also ok. Rear passengers might not enjoy it though hahahaha

Best of luck...

Most likely a 95-96 honda civic... I have a feeling space will end up being somewhat of a problem, so even if the ported box was less than the max recommended volume, would it still be better to go ported? Also, is there any difference between just venting with a slot in the MDF versus installing a circular port?
One last question, if I decided to go with L7's instead of L5's, how much of a difference are we talking? I would imagine a bit of a difference considering the jump from 600 watts to 750, but how much of a difference would that actually make?

I don't know those subs but if you're not going to increase the power to them I would say to stick with the L5 as it is likely to be a more efficient desgin and better able to make use of slightly less power.

Slot the MDF????? Even a slot style port must have the proper length which is calculated using the surface area of the slot.
