box designs

alright right now i have 2 infinity 10.1 subs in a bassworx ported box with an infinity 1211A amp pushing them so theres no lack of power to them. first question, what is a good box designing program i can use, perferable free to download. iv looked at a coupple different ones and one thing im not sure of is it asks for what frequency i want, is that the prefered frequency of the sub or what i want for music? if thats the case im not realy sure exactly what freq i want, i listen to mostly rock music but a bit of everything. secondly, from what i hear everyone seems to like ported boxes better but i havnt had any experience with a sealed one, is it worth considering? id like get as much trunk space left over as i can but im willing to sacrifice for the greater good

Properly built ported or poperly built sealed are both great, each has a couple advantages

What matters to you-
size of box
SPL
power handling
SQ should be great in both

well i like my bass to be deep and punchie, id prefer not to shake my bowels appart but i like my music loud . space is moderatly important to me, if i can id like to design a box thats wider and less deep so that i can take advantage of the front of my trunk.

check out how low of a frequency your subs can respond to and go a little about that mine were rated for 35 Hz and i went with 38 Hz and dont regret it, the lower u go the more frequency your sub will put out opposed to a high frequencey ur sub will be unable to hit those notes cuz ur box doesn corespond. mine were 15's i tuned if you check ur out ur 10's should be good for about 40 Hz so porting ur box to about 45Hz would be the best bet

Get the best of both worlds and build a Band Pass with two drivers mounted in an isobaric configuration.

Smaller enclosure with the benefits of a ported box!

alright so according to the papers that came with the subs, if the freq. rating that ur talking about is the "free-air resonance" than they are rated at 28.3Hz. so, correct me if im wrong but i would want the box to be tuned to around 35Hz then. im still cant decide which box style i want, space is pretty important to me so im thinking sealed or isobarik because the ported bassworx box i have now is taking up the back half of my trunk leaving the front half to be taken up by my 2 amps. at the same time i would hate to have gone to all the work and find that the subs dont sound much differant at all. iv heard the same set of subs as mine in a custom ported box built at futureshop but it was in the back of a cube van so its kinda hard to compair if u know what i mean.

if ur subs are good for 28 id port the box to at least 30 then cuz ur subs are wanting to play all those notes and the box wont want to and wont sounds as clean as a perfectly tuned box. i know what u mean my box takes up my whole trunk i couldnt close my trunk at first had to do a lot of moding to get it to fit, i dont know a whole lot about bandpass and never bothered trying cuz its a whole different ball game, if your that worried about space stick with a sealed box

when i first bought the subs i bought a sealed bassworx box and i was so disgusted with the sound i took it back the next day, i could hear the box vibrating lol. but iv never heard a custom sealed box before most people i know tend to go towards ported. does anyone happen to know weather there is a differance between having a divider between the 2 drivers or just having the whole box open? iv heard some people say that a divider will help and some people say it makes no differance what so ever.
