box strength/airflow -bracing/coating

Ok, We've got the MDF, screws, glue on hand.....4-4 inch PSP flared ports and the 3rd sub for the box on order, still need to finalize the size, but whatever...

I'm wondering what the best things for strength and airflow are...what kind of bracing/coatings are generally used? And I guess if I really need them at all?

box will be approx 17x18x46 with 3 12" subs, 4 ports to start ... on varying amount of power as things progress.

3/4 inch MDF , 1 1/2" face with sub recessed that 3/4"

How much can really be gained or lost with coatings/bracing? how much of it would "fit" my application?
We'll just be bassracing and groundpounding, we won't be competing to win in Dbdrag. Is the extra time/money worth it?

just regular resin, in and out if possible.

double baffle where the subs will go

If you're really worried about bracing then use 1" mdf as well but definitely as yuli states double baffle the subs. It does wonders. I would even double baffle the ports as well.

Both are great ideas. Resin, thicker baffle.... I'd also put at least a 3/4 brace between each of the subs. They will act as both a brace for the baffle and a wave guide for the subs.

Guess if I want a strong box I will need to get over my fear of working with fiberglass..
I just need the resin and catalyst? No cloth ?
Will double up the front baffle for sure, since I have the .75 mdf already.

DS - I'm not sure how to. I had thought of guiding the wave as you said, but with 3 subs and 4 ports I'm not sure how to guide 3 subs to 4 ports.

I was thinking of using a couple threaded rods/nuts/bolts for bracing, should be easy, but I like the idea of guiding the wave, just have no clue how.

Yes, if the box is already fairly strong, all you need is resin. It makes for a more laminar flow, and a much smoother surface.

VVVVVV This is what I was trying to say. You might have seen this in a few peoples builds.

Gonna start cutting up the MDF today, just need to get a new table saw blade first ..Dang small town Sunday hours..

Have any tips on putting the 'glass on?
Paint it on? How many layers/how thick? Heck, anything that could help a 'glass noob do well..
