I have a 2003 Dodge ram 2500 4 door (not mega cab). I have 2 Kicker 8" subs that I would like to build a sub enclosure to hold both. I need the enclosure to replace my center console between the seats. I need help with dimensions, etc. My buddy did build one it is too small, the poor subs dont pound like they should, I have the subs powered by a 600 watt Sony amp. Any help greatly appreciated.

 

What exactly do you expect from a pair of 8" kicker subs?

 

I am definately not expecting Thundering IASCA quality bass. I do expect to have clear crisp bass more than they are putting out now. I know the enclosure is approximately 1/3 to small. Friend built it to fit with out changing to much. I should say it is sealed. I have the subs setting on the deck maxed, I have to keep the bass levels on the deck down to not fry the door speakers. When we were trying to get the sound I was looking for or even some where close, with the rest of the speakers disconnected I had very little bass. My understanding (and I maybe wrong) is that having the correct size enclosure will help me. That is why I am posting my question here. I basically want to know if some one can give me some suggestions on sizing, ported or sealed. Any direction at all to help me build a nice enclosure that may help with what I have for gear. Maybe even some one has some plans they would be willing to share.

It would be a lot more helpful if you posted the model # of the subs that you have. Nobody can help you on a box design if they don't know what you have there. Once you do that, the parameters can be obtained and a design can be suggested. You could also go to the Kicker website yourself and look this information up, then you would know what the recomended box sizes and port requirements actually are. If you posted that info here there are many people here who could assist with a design, although your last post may put a damper on replies.

 

seriously, what's with newbies? you guys post a question and expect that there are 30 guys just waiting to answer it. Patience grass hopper. We need some photos of your truck's center console(cause nobody has time to guess what it looks like), the sub's model, and how much space you want to give up. Once we have that information, then I'm sure we can give you ideas, specific designs etc...

 

You said you turned your bass down on the deck. Have you adjusted the gain/bass settings on the amplifier? What about crossovers? You may have them crossed over too high. Check the crossover settings on both the amp and the deck.
