Custom plastic moulding

Hey everybody,

I am wondering how to best go about doing some custom dash moulding. I am looking to replace (or extend) a panel to include a set of switches. I want to have the panel drop down under the deck but look like it is part of the panel above it not a separate panel. something like this:
1999 Dodge Dakota Interior View Photo 3
but clearly not as big.

any input would be helpful.

Thanks guys

'Glass is always a good option.
But that could involve a lot of work.
Not too sure how much work you're looking to put in for some switches.

I want it to look good. I don't mind working my *** of for the look I want. It'll be a learning experience. How would I get the same look of the moulded plastic from Fiberglass?

Make the panel for the switches
Adhere it permanently to the dash piece
Use flexible fillers (I like Fibertech) to mold the two together.
Spray the entire piece with a texture coating to mimick the dash around it. SEM makes a product for this, some use crinkle paint, some spray activated fibreglass resin from a gun (never like that look personally). I have used a high build primer sprayed from a distance so it hits the surface partially dry. THis works if the texture is fine. The more time you spend here, the more convincing it will look.
Spray with a color match paint/dye. SEM is your best resouce here.

Easy

^ That's right. I generally buy it in the tube.

If you can't find it, I know some guys use Dominion Sure Seal products: Dominion
