Designing a box for a 12w3

Well, if anyone has read my previous post, i blew up my 12w3v3-4 annnd.

In the downtime that im waiting for it to get back from warrenty work, Im wanting to spend some time building a nice, clean sounding, ported box for it.

This is going in the back of a extended cab ranger, and i have no idea how im going to build it to fit well, and still have a great sound.

I have heard from many people i want this speaker to face the rear of my cab, with the port on the top. However, i want to get some more opinions on location of the sub and port.

Next, For this box, the dimensions im going to be working with (hopefully...) i Dont want to be any bigger than the current box. as its already almost too big for my truck. (Note: the current box its in was designed for a L7, and converted to accept a w3. something they didnt tell me when i bought the combo... so i dont think the specs are even right for it.

yes im aware its a sloppy setup right now :P, and my truck is dirty as hell, and that isnt a w3. i will install it properly when i get my w3 back.

Basicly what im wanting to know. Is, What would be a good design that anyone can think of for this truck? does anyone have a program that can create a box for it to run optimum? What should i tune it to? (i listen mostly to metal music, but it it varies to almost any genre.)

attached pictures show the current box + dimensions.. which i would prefer to be the MAX for the new box, becasue as you can see, my seat doesnt have any room to play with as it is....

lastly the picture with the hole in the cab, is why i dont like the port on the front, the air shoots into there and creates a lot of unwanted noise.

if anyone with some experience building boxes could help me out with some specs, and tips, that would be great

ok, any ideas where i can find, or how i can calculate proper dimesions for a box? I have never built one before.

I think if im going to be pointing the sub up, ill build the box so that i can mold it over that step that its pointing at right now. that will give me a lot more room to play with. Any objections or idea's why that may be a bad idea?

that would be awesome. But seriously, you dont have to do that.

Plus i have 3-5 weeks waiting time before my sub gets back anyways. so. Im really in no rush.

If you want to design it, i wont stop you >.> :P but. if its going to take that much of your time, then its really not necessary.

also, looking at the space that the little step takes up, i measured it to be 8 inches. So, i think i will rig up a little platform so the box sits above it, so i can push it all the way to the wall. that way i should be able to fully push the seat back, and drive comfortably once again.

it doesnt take me long, i'm a rocket scientist.

if i dont have something for you tonight, i'll have it for you tommorow.

and just because you dont have a sub, doesn't mean you can't build an enclosure and such

After reading this again minus a couple jaggerbombs, you said you want to keep the enclosure within the dimensions posted. my question to the O/P is, why not utalize the space you have behind the seat? You can build yourself a false floor, your your amp(s) mounting underneith, and then have a solid base to mount the enclosure.

The great thing about JL is that the specs they post online for their subs, are exactly the requirements needed for the driver. (including the port specs)

I would start there.

Good luck.
