Enclosure help, how big?

Alright, for starters, I have a small system, can't afford to upgrade from this, so I'd like to maximize what I have, a 10" Rockford P2 (P2D410) and a Rockford P300-1 amp running a 2 ohm load. The spec. sheet the sub came with suggests a 1.25 ft3 ported box, yet the online spec's suggest 1.40 ft3 ported box tuned to 40hz.

Im looking to build a slot ported box, but I'm really not sure about tuning frequency's and sizes, would I want 1.25, or less? or should I really be building it fairly large, I've seen plans for boxes with much more air space. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1.5 cubic feet after displacement?

I've been playing around a few different numbers and designs on paper using these volume, and slot port calculators.

I've come up with a design that will give me 1.5 cubic feet after displacement from my port. Should I be taking into account the displacement of my sub as well?

the disp. of the sub is probably no more than 0.075 so its not a HUGE deal but you can take it into account. PM if you need some help

Okay, I'll give you what I've got so far, I'm flying blind on this one so any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Material will be 2 layers of 5/8" MDF laminated together making a total of 1.25" in thickness, which I think is probably overkill for this sub, but what the hell, why not.

Box dimensions are as follows:

Height = 14"
Width = 22"
Depth = 16"

Using the online calculator I previously posted this gives me an internal volume of 1.75 cubic feet

Port Dimensions are:

Width =2"
Height =12.75"
Length =27.5"

Once again, the material used for port walls will be 1.25"

This leaves me with a port that takes up a little over .25 cubic feet.

Am I doing this right?

I appreciate your help so far jalat, I've been flipping through threads and have seen some of your work, very nice stuff.

You don't really need 1.25" of MDF for a single 10" p2(IMO). A well built 5/8" should be sufficient. Mine had zero flex and it was 2.25 cubes. 3/4" would be nice though.

I made this up using the RE calculator, I've used this for my last few personal boxes and they've been great.

^Using 3/4 MDF.

RE enclosure calc. is great for getting started, but have many issues with it. tunning is usually off (usually lower than what the enclosure really is) and same with the cubic footage.
