Question an enclosure under spec? or over spec? which is better. please help

hey there. i have been struggling for a week now trying to decide on an enclosure.
i have (2) rockford 12" t212d2 subs (http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?item_id=91849&locale=en_us) (i am running a bd constant power 1500.1 @ 2ohm amp)
specs call for a 2.0cu ft. box for each sub (min 1.5- max 2.5)
a powerful enclosure calls for 2.2cu ft. with an L shaped port.

my question is:
i cant find a 2.0cu ft box for sub. should i get a box that is 1.75cu ft vented for each sub? or a 1.9cu ft/sub or a 2.5cuft/sub box? (all boxs are ported/vented)
also, does the tuned HZ of the box matter that much? my subs call for 40hz, but if i get a 34hz box is it guna matter as much?
what is the best for the subs? a bit above, or a bit below spec? which ports are best? L shaped, labyrinth?
does it matter much if my subs share the same airspace/port? or should they have their own chambers?

THANKS A TON

download winisd, input the data sheet specs.....buy a $30.00 sheet of 1" mdf, build the box.......after screws, glue and what not and an hr or 2 of time....you'll have a box ON spec!!

Thanks

Thanks Red.

I will check there.

If using 3/4" MDF, should I double it in baffle area (will be internally braced....one 10" Image Dynamics IDQ, new, sealed box...).

I appreciate your kind offer of help.

rona home depot and lowes typically have 3/4" mdf . you wont "need" to internally brace that 10"idq but wont hurt it! just a little more work for you and calculations to get the correct volume

Either build a box yourself or have a custom built box made...they're about the same price as a good prefab box, and will be properly matched to your subs. Tuning is based on your preference, the sub's needs, and the vehicle's acoustics. Ports can be any shape, but the volume needs to be in a certain range to prevent port noise. It doesn't matter if the subs are in a common chamber.

Box Done, Sounds Great!

Had a lot of fun.

3/4" MDF from Home Depot (24X48" was $10.49)
Baffl;e thickness doubled
1 1/2" spruce braces (X4) inside
wood glue
silicone sealant
#8 wood screws 2" (pre-drilled)

Spray primer on inside
and outside, then few coats of black spray paint,
followed by fibreglass (polyester) resin, two coats

then sprayed it with Dupli-color spray

let it dry (silicone) four days

and popped my baby in!

Volume is 0.98cu ft exactly.

I added a very small amount of poly-fill (about the volume of a loaf of bread, spray glued to three adjacent walls...so thinly...probably a waste...)

MY QUESTION IS.....please....

Audison amp supplying 340 watts rms (sub RMS 350 W)

Sounds good, but maybe too much down low...idk?
The sub is supposed to have a "musicality" to it....would it be better to slightly reduce the effective internal volume of the box (take out small amount of polyfill and add extra braces inside, for a volume of 0.92....or would that small change not make much a difference to the "musicality" factor.

TIA.
