Hey guys,

I heard that with the technical spec of a subwoofer, you can find the ideal enclosure size for the speaker.

CDT recommend .7-.8 sq. feet for a sealed box. But I was wondering if I could make it a bit less tight if I had a .9 sq feet box.

By the way, I'm making a SEALED fiberglass box.

You will be fine with a box that size. But are you talking after speaker displacement or before? As i would think this is after speaker displacement.

 

My current box is 17x8x13.5 so... which give approx. 1.02 sq feet minus the .25 for the driver. so I had a box of .75 .

 

Youll be fine with the box you have. A smaller box will yield a hgher SPL at the same power, and a larger box will lose efficiency but be more even throughout the bandwidth.
I found and put in over 25 parameters for your speaker and found it would be more suited in a ported enclosure. If you do go with a sealed box make it to .75 after sub displacement. This will yield a low QTC and will rolloff after 80 hz.

 

thanks man! I appreciate the times you takes. However, I found a thread on DIYmobile where someone said this sub was better in a ported box too. I know it's impossible, this sub is way too much tight and SQ to be in a ported box.

There is a missunderstanding about Ported being for SPL and Sealed being for SQ. Most high end home audio speakers are in fact ported. The specs of a woofer will determine in what kind of box it will actually perform best in. It is up to you to read up on in .. lots of info on the internet if you actually want to make the effort to find out.

 

I agree with zoomer. Also the FS of the sub is a very loose 25 hz which makes it great for low end extension which can be better achieved in a ported enclosure.

 

Okay.. but I just started my fiberglass box.. I can't change the design

 

GO for it... if the box is too big then you can always reduce its internal volume by adding styfoam inside it.. You may want to try that any way to see how it sounds.
