HT Sub Box

This is my attempt at a box design for a CVR15.

Does it need anything? Braces or sizing? Its going to be venered MDF, trimed in Oak. It for the home theater.

Thanx,

Tom

Here is an updated .pdf

I made it a little bigger and added some braces on the port. I'm thinking of adding an X brace immediately behind the magnet.

The VR manual says compact enclosure 3ft cube, maximum (SPL/DeepBass) 5ft cube. I took the port area/length from the Deep Bass and the volume is 3ft, so its a combo.

Will it work or am I out in left feild? Its a lot bigger than the generic boxes available.

looks alright. 3 cubes should be good for a 15" i'd just suggest tuning in the low 30's

For HT use I would tune lower, from the second diagram you are tuned to about 38hz, WAY TOO HIGH for HT, you want to be tuned at arund 20-25hz, problem is with that box and that port size 25hz tuning will require the port to be 61" long! Make the box about 5cuft and the port 2" x 17" and 25" long this will tune to 25hz.

hmmm really that low? i'm not disagreeing, i just never thought it was nessesary to tune that low, i thought something like 30hz would be enough

I found some box and port calculators!!

I made the port narrower and longer and got it down to 33Hz. I think its godd enough, i don't have room for a bigger box.

Are these more or less going to be in the corners of the room?

Then you could try larger sealed boxes and port them later if you wish. The corner loading will reinforce the low end like a horn. If you decide later that you want more low end you could port the enclosure. With the low resonance frequency of your 15's (~21 Hz) you should have no trouble getting low bass. You'll just have to keep in mind when you choose a sealed size that you may add ports in future. I'd tune for between 24 and 30 Hz. If 33Hz is your size limit then give it a try, you can always redesign and build new boxes. It's part of the fun of this hobby.
