need advice for my alpine x box enclosure

Okay i see there are alot of forums on here for alpine x read a bunch of them they kind of answered my question but kind of didn' t... So what my issue is i just got a 10" alpine x subwoofer was building a box for it I built the box right to the specs out of the alpine manual.. it calls for 1.25 cu ft they gave me external dimensions for the box which were 12.5 x 14.5 x 16.5 and they wanted a vent 1" x 11". so i built the box and it looks way to small for this sub.. for example they got 12.5 for the width and 14.5 for height how are you supposed to put the sub on the face there as well as a vent 1" x 11" so i put the sub on the 16.5 x 14.5 side of the box with the vent beside ,, is that goinne be okay or do you think I should put it the other way and try to fit it all in >> any suggestions

Draw it out on a piece of paper...it works exactly as they say...in fact here is a diagram to help you out. If you've built it the other way it will work fine as well...but it's best to have the port on the same face as the sub. Oh, and the outside dimensions as per Alpine's manual is 12.5 x 14.5 x 18.5...not 16.5.

I Did build it the other way i used the 16.5 x 14.5 as the face and i did put the port beside it on the same face.. but i totally see what you mean i grabbed the rubber ring that came with the sub put it on the face on the 12.5 x 14.5 and it will fit perfect so i think im gonna unscrew the part i alreadycut the sub out for and redo it to manual.. I got the manual right in front of me and it does say 12.5 x 14.5 x 16.5..... so it says the Gross Internal Volume ...... 1.25 Cu ft
Slot Vent Area (dimensions) .......... 11 in (11" x 1")
Slot Vent Length ............. 22 in.

So in my opinion that means cut the vent hole opening at 1" x 11" so what does the slot vent length 22 in mean

I'm not sure what you built, but I have a sneaky suspicion that you didn't put the port in. When the port walls are in the box, they double as the box's bracing. If you put the sub on the 14.5 x 16.5 side then you're making your port construction much more difficult. From the previous diagram you can see that the port is exactly 11" tall using the box's walls as it's confinement. Once the port wall is put in to create the 1" width, that wall will be extended into the box, and with the box's walls will create the port length. The total length measured through the center of the port is it's port length. In this case 22" and this is what creates a box's tuning frequency. I'll do another diagram to illustrate. As for the manual, I guess Alpine updated the specs at some point, but the one I have has 1.4 cubic feet gross internal volume, not 1.25...they may have adjusted some parameters on the sub to allow for a smaller enclosure. Use what came with the your sub.

your suspicion was right I didnt realize that they were calling for internalwalls for the port I can build whatever they want for a box if i know.. now that i have seen that diagram you gave me i know exactly what i need to do ... all i did with this box i built was built it to the dimensions.. cut the opening for the sub with a 1" x 11 hole right beside it no internal walls i figures the hole was just there to let it breath ..... Thanks alot for helping me out I would of had no idea if you didnt tell me or send me the diagram..

yep..i did the same thing with my first box about 25 years ago...damn where did the years go? Glad I could help...wish there was a board like this back in the day...hell, computers were just hitting the market and the internet was just an idea back then, but it would have saved me a lot of fried electronics, and crappy sounding installs...lol. Anyway, when it's done you'll be pretty happy with the performance, it is one of the best sounding subwoofers available at any price. Just make sure your box is built well, glue and screws or staples, seal all joints with glue or sealant, and if possible round over the port edges to allow for best possible air flow (not a necessity but if you have access to wood working tools like a router, you might as well do a good job). Lastly, make sure you play with the location in the trunk as subs can sound very different due to placement in the vehicle (i.e sub facing rear, front, side, and different distances from the sides etc...) Let me know how it works out for you when you're done.
