Need help building first enclosure!

Alright, I bought a Alpine 12" Type R, and I decided that I am going to build my own box this time around (bought my mine for my previous setup of 2 10" infinities).

Alpine suggest a volume of 1.7 cubic feet for a ported box, which is what I will be doing.

First off, I mainly listen to rap and techno (yes, two odd choices, but hey, I like it) so what would be the best tuning frequency? 34hz-ish?

Second, does placement of the tuning port really matter? Could I have the sub facing to the rear of my vehicle (1997 Honda CR-V) and then have the slot off to the side?

Third, If I did tube porting, is it possible to have the tubes swappable, so that I can get different tuning frequencies?

Fourth, are there any good programs that I could use to make the box templates/cutting instructions. I have a general idea of the dimensions, roughly 22"W x 14"H x 11"tD x 14"bD (box has a 3" wedge, also works out to around 1.7 cubic feet).

The lower the frequency the sexyer and more voilent the subs will be and allso use more jam to make it loud. It will feel louder then say 50hz but...

Placement of the port will be a factor. So yes, even say firring the subs the same as the ports to oposite makes a great difference. So play with it as in firing it in various derections.

Tunable ports is in my opionion the only way to go. You reuse the ends and replace the middle.

As for programs your on your own, I'm sure some one has a link for you.

When building record ever thing you do an change. Some time the little things make the biggest change.

Cool, Thanks for the info.
I decided that I am going to go with a tunable piped box, what you you recommend for material? Just go get some 3" PVC pipe and cut it to various lengths to get different tuning frequencies?

ya pvc pipe will work fine for that and u can flare it out by heating it up and presing down on a wooding ball and to if u dont care how it looks if u have the tubing on the out side of the box is is 30% more efficient

I think I may have the tube hole on the top, then make it so I can have the tube mounted outside or inside of the box, and can tune it to whatever frequency I want it at
