new enclosure design idea

so i was thinking about sub walls in cars and it gave me an idea... rather than taking the seats out, why not put the sub in the rear window area where the speakers are? it would be much louder than it would be in the trunk, and i know someone who has alot of experience with fiberglass. the back of the box would be built in the trunk to control air volume..i think it would look pretty cool and sound alot better because of how big the car is. I would have to build the box to spec from the inside of the trunk as well, but hey the guys a carpenter too. what might be some drawbacks? or is it generally just a bad idea..

subs in the rear deck look good and are a good idea if you still like to use your trunk alot. a few friends of mine built 2 10"s into the read deck of a vw jetta about 2 years ago. its a good sounding system

yeah im not sure why i didnt think of this sooner lol. do you have any suggestions for the back of the box in the trunk? im wondering how im supposed to seal off a whole portion of the trunk so i could have a certain volume of air for SPL.... however im wondering which would be better: a) spending ALOT of time and effort to close off a large portion of the trunk for about 7 cubic feet of air in the box, or b) have a sealed box for better quality and a smaller area to close off, but also lose some db if i would intend to compete in the future. what do you think? looking for any suggestions.

No reason it wont work at all, but in a caprice you could build a huge "normal" box to spec and still fit 6 dead guys rolled up in carpet back there.

not at all bashing the idea, in fact I like the idea, you just have so much room it seems like a crap load of work....maybe I'm just a lazy *** though

haha yeah thats definitely true, there is loads of trunk space. but the reason i thought of this isnt because of trunk space, it was actually because a sub in the back of the actual interior would be alot louder than a sub in the trunk. personally i think it would look pretty cool and would sound even cooler if it was done properly (fingers crossed).

7 cubes? what the hell are u putting in there a jackhammer? in order to make it look good you'd probably have to remove the back deck, look at what you have to mount to, make a box, fab it up to the rear deck, make a trim panel so it looks fancy shmancy and then ur set.

a decent amount of work, best to know what your doing

well the jbl specs for the sub is 6.5 cubes, but hell ive got room for 7 lol. what would happen if i just left the trunk open and made a vent in the back deck? can too much volume cause bad sound? i know this sounds like a stupid question but ive never actually thought about that.

it's the jbl w15 gti...i havnt listened to it yet,and to be honest ive never actually heard a sub that was that loud lol. so im not even sure what to expect (im running it with the earthquake phd5000). but if its not loud enough to be used just for spl, then i may as well balance spl with quality. as for the enclosure, however it needs to be made, im sure i can get it done with some help
