I dont know if ports are 'allowed' to have braces, in that I think they change the tuning of it, no? If they are, I'm sure it would give some port noise, but much less if you curve the end of it to be shaped like a needle/point. Like a 'V'.

Personally, I have never heard of it being an issue, assuming you are referring to a brace that runs lengthwise with the port and isn't too thick. If you want to get , you can add the area taken up but the brace to the total length of the port to remain in spec.

Which way are you talking about bracing? Across the port or down the length of it?
Either way a threaded rod may be your best bet. As it will take up less space than mdf would and its rounded so it will help combat port noise.
