sealed box

would making a sealed box bigger then recommenced hurt the subs in any way? ie: subs say .5cubic ft per sub. and if i have 3, would making a box bigger then 1.5 hurt them? im thinking of more like 2 cubic ft

Nope... it shouldn't hurt them. It will change the box response and somewhat reduce the the overall power handling.

whats my best bet then? i have a s10, ext cab, 3 re, re series 10's, i want to go sealed box. it recomends .5 each sub, so should i just build it to 1.5? but once the subs get mounted in it seems like the magnets will be close to the back wall of the box, or does that even matter? i just like to give them some room lol

Thumbs up

As long as you allow for venting out the back of the magnet you will be fine......an inch or two will do it......as for going larger than specs on the volume it will lower the Fb of the box and drop your power handling a bit.....if you are running at or a little over the recommended power it shouldn't be a problem......

well the amp i will be using is way more powerfull then these so i will tune for these subs, so i think i might just build the box to 1.6 cubic ft. also, is it worth 45'ing the corners or no benefits?

If you mean mitering the edges, then I wouldn't. A butt joint or post joint with glue and nails should give you the tight fit you want. If you have the tools, I would actually move the sides in a bit and dato it for strength.

Since you sound a bit worried about having too much air inside, then this can help solve that as well. You can also use some 1.5" MDF (added weight though) I get mine from a cabinate shop out of their scrap bin for FREE. Or from home depot in the "already cut" section for $0.50 a sheet if I'm lucky and there's some there.

no i meant, like the slot ported box's 45 the corners so there isnt a tight corner to bend around, as isnt the ideal box a circle? so just didnt know if 45's in a sealed would do anything? also, is it worth going from 3/4 mdf to 1"? in a sealed application? with the wattage that i will be doing? or not really

The corners in the ports you are talking about are meant to smooth airflow thru the port.....not an issue with a sealed box.

It can't hurt to build out of thicker wood....you might want to double up the baffle but the whole box shouldn't need the extra thickness......a couple of braces will take care of what little flex you might get......

It's done to help with box flex.....it might be an issue with a serious SPL set-up, for the average system it can be part of making the install look better by flush mounting the drivers.....
