Sealed box question

I have 2x Alpine Type R's and I'm putting them into a 1.25Cu Ft sealed enclosure. It has sealed chambers and I'm curious, is there anything wrong with mounting the subs magnet out so they have more of the 1.25CuFt available to them?

I believe Alpine recommends 1.07CuFT per sub for sealed enclosures, so how is the sound going to change if the sealed enclosure is louder than recommended

Thanks

A bigger box will play lower but also changes its power handling. How much power do you intend on feeding them? Also you have to wire them out of phase so when a sub installed normal would push out the ones you inverted will pull in.

Ok good to know about wiring them out of phase.

My amp is rated at ~900W RMS @ 1 Ohm, so probably ~450W each. Alpine has them rated for 250-500 iirc

Your amp will be O.K. I'd try it.... if they sound like they're bottoming out try to cross subsonic filter a little higher or turn down amp a little. Other than that, if you want to keep them inverted you'll have to remove enough airspace from inside the box to get back to the recommended air space. That will allow for more power handling. Just add enough wood inside. Thats the best way if you want to show off the basket.

Alright. I'm not dead set on having my magnets out, in fact I'd prefer them in as I like having a little bit of trunk space sometimes. so the closer to the reccomended I get, the 'better' the sound, and the more power it'll handle according to the spec sheet?

Pretty much ya... but I'd still remove the airspace as soon as possible if they sound funny...

What is this phase thing? Do you have to actually wire it out of phase or is that done on the deck? How well does this work or does it just do it completely? If you had subs out of phase do they sound different? Does this let you sidefire with the magnets in the box? I never even thought of that has anyone tried sidefireing out of phase?

My deck supports it. I'm not sure about the rest of your questions though

Assuming that is 1.25cuft total, mounting the subs inverted will get you closer to the recommended volume and the 'best' sound.

Subs mounted inverted only need to be wired 'out-of-phase' if they are being used with normally mounted subs in the same system even if they don't share a common air space.

If you have 1.25cuft per driver, they should be mounted normally to bring the airspace back to closer to what Alpine recommends.

Switching the phase on the subs is normally done if there are cancellation issues due to the location and distance between subs and the other speakers inside the passenger cabin.....most modern amps and decks have this switch, 99.9% of people never use them.....

My deck had it too but if you were using four subs with two facing the other direction how does it know which subs to phase and which to not? Dumb feature, or is this not what phase is?
