Sealed Enclosure Design for 1x Pioneer Premier TS-W3001D2

Hey all,

I am having a little trouble trying to calculate the best enclosure design for a single Pioneer Premier TS-W3001D2 in a sealed box for my 240sx.

I have made a box, but I feel it is far too small, as I forgot to take into account the displacement of the woofer when I designed it.

I was hoping to make a wedge type box so that it can be a little smaller in height.

Can someone give me a few ideas, or point me in the right direction?

I searched around and found the link to the RF Box wizard, but i'm gathering that wont be specific for my needs, and I will still need to account for the woofer displacement. Is that correct?

In the past I have always just built a huge box and thrown as much power at it as possible. Now I am far more concerned over the useable trunk space, and the efficiency of the design.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

your looking at an enclosure that is going to be 1 cubic foot after displacements, so your gonna make an enclosure using that RF box wizard program to be sized around 1.05-1.1 cubes

Yeah, I am looking for 1 cu ft after displacement. Ok, so generally a woofer displaces about 0.1 cu ft?

Looking at the dimensions needed, the box I already made must be about .5 cu ft. LOL

Maybe I should just save myself the hassle and go buy a prefab box ready to go.

i wouldn't. majority of the prefabs on the market are on the small side because its a generic cubic footage for 12" woofers. (or w/e size woofer you have) if you want i can design a wedge type enclosure, or a rectangular one

you'll feel better about yuorself in the end when you build your own enclosure, you always do.

They're showing the optimum sealed enclosure to be .8cu.ft.

I just made a box on Saturday for a Apline TypeS, 10". 14x14x11 rectangular sealed box, with a volume of .86cu.ft. My sub is a lot smaller, the displacement was only .05cu.ft.

Try 16x14x10, that should get you pretty darn close.

That definitely sounds like a decent size.

I have a few issues.

If I want to keep my current rear speaker set up (rear parcel tray/privacy cover), the available height is 13" without the speakers.

I was considering making a new cover out of MDF also, but it seems like a shedload of hassle.

That was the idea of using a wedge style box.

I have about 8" - 10" of room before the speakers come through the cover.

Guess I could always get a new privacy cover, or build something new.

Im just trying to make it as painless as possible.

I was looking at that page too. reason why i said 1 cubic foot was because it had a nice long peak above all the other suggested volumes. i'm also not sure if he's powering it to the potential 1000rms...

but that enclosure could work.

I am not pushing it to quite 1000w rms.

I am using this amp to begin with:

PRS-D2200T

My question is, can it safely run at 1 ohm? Im doubting it, so I will run it bridged at 2 ohm.

THese are the specs:

150 x 2(4 ohm )
600 x 1 (4 ohm bridged)

Couldnt I run it theoretically at 1200(?) x 1 @ 2 ohm bridged? Or are my numbers wrong? Halve the impedance, double the power?

Or will that fry the amp?

Anyone had any experience?

Youre amp will not bridge @ 2 ohms or it is at least not recommended. As for the box i had the exact same sub in a sealed enclosure at first, before building a ported one, which was much better. It was in a sealed box with 1.2 cu.ft after sub and bracing displacement and ran over 1500 rms to it daily.

that amp has an undersized power supply section so if in theiry it could work at 2ohm mono, I might only make 10 more power and 100% more magic smoke. Given the TS W3000's limited excursion a sealed box is really a waste for that sub, it runs out of excursion long before power handling.

With limted space you should ditch that sub and find something that will work alot better for your application. Something with more excursion that was designed for a small sealed box application.
