Shared vs. seperate chamber for dual 12's
#11
Variances in the manufacturing of the drivers will often cause them to behave slightly differently.. however in a sharred air space they will tend to modulate each other and even those differences out...

by modulate each other do you mean they wont load optimally?
i dont know about them balancing each other out, i would say it would only be worse.
im no sound engineer, that's for sure. but from years of trying different things i've always discovered that separate was better. sounded better and was louder.
there are different variations of how you can mount two or more subs in the same box, all of which will have a different effect on loading and each other. when you put each driver in it's own box all those variables are eliminated.

Honestly I think having the internal baffle adds an exuberant amount of bracing which would increase external volume.
I'm guessing it would cut your flex by at least 20-30%.. Especially if you used really thick material i.e 1" + ..
(exacerbated assuming you know how to fabricate an enclosure and use various forms of fastening and sealing.)

using an SPL example... why do all(most) the guys in SPL use single chamber boxes?
answer above. and not because of space savings.

Well, not getting the 4-channel I thought I was, I was misinformed. Sidenote : it's free so I don't really care what it is. It's a 2 channel, with even less wattage then I thought - rated 150Wrms x 2 @ 4ohms or bridged 360Wrms @ 4ohms, not 2ohm stable when bridged - so I'm just going to build a new single (bit larger with dual or L-port, and diff. frequency) and bridge the amp.
I may still build a dual box when I get some extra cash for wood, too many projects I want to do, not enough money. But this thread has been very useful if I do run into a circumstance if/when I do need to build a box for dual drivers, maybe help someone out searching for the same info in the future too. Thanks for the help and info guys.
