I wouldn't shrink the size. It's not needed. Bracing is a must, whether it be a couple 2x2's or threaded rod.

The extra inch of port is to keep the tuning the same after bracing. it'll lower tuning by like .5hz which isn't even audible

Let me know if you need help with construction or anything else...

thanks Mikey

ok well I can't draw so I'll have to describe the other box. it is 32x32x16 with a port the same 7'' high but 15'' wide and about 14'' long.

another design I was thinking of was similar to this box as well, same 32x32x17 but the port is 11x11 or 12x12 or some combination of the two and like 15-19 inches long depending on what size. both tune to around the same thing, but the 32x32x17 part brings volume down to just about 2 cubes per. that is really my biggest concern because I don't want to bottom out the subs like I did with my last box, and I really don't want to put styrofoam in this one like I did with the other

With the enclosure design I have provided, you WILL NOT bottom out the subs. Add two inches of lengths to the port to bring tuning down if you are worried about bottoming out. All of your other enclosure were tuned WAYYYY TOOO HIGH for daily.

they all came out between 38 and 39 hz no? 32x32x17 gives 8.34 cubes, then say 4 pieces of 2x2 bracing, thats .14 cubes, so the volume ends up at 8.2, so with a port 11x11 and 17 and change inches long tunes me to around 38 hz, no?

got one more, slot port, 32x32x24h, subs up port back, port 6.75x30.5 and 24.5 inches long. something says its tuned to the same 38.5 ish mark. does that work? not sure how I'd brace it, but would that work? or maybe just changing the port? like say 11x12, and say 17'' long? that tunes around the same as your design Mike, but allows for more port area, which is good, right?

if I could use sketchup I'd have an argument to that. I'm just broke so it'll be a while before I'm building another box. the goal is a 150 in a musical box. quick question, does the location of the port matter? I know my van loaded best with the port on the driver side facing the trunk, so I'm thinking of putting the port there.
