slot port question

hey guys, just a question I have about building a box for a single sub with DUAL slot ports.

Can you just simply divide the box in 1/2 and calculate the port that way and do the same to the other side? example. a 3cube box with 1 slot port tuned to lets say 35hz would be... port=3x13.5 and 28.5 long. is it safe to assume if i built a box 3 cubes with 2 ports 1.5 each about 28 inches long? it just doesnt seem that simple to me....

Thanks

I think you can model for dual ports on WINisd??? But maybe that's just dual drivers.. No, looks like you can enter # of ports into the equation.

You are correct by thinking it's not that simple. It is slightly more complicated than just simply dividing the port by two.

To calculate for two ports, divide your box size by half (3.0cu.ft./2 = 1.5 cu.ft.) and figure out your tuning for one port. Then when you double your box size (or add the other half of your box) and add a second port, they will be tuned correctly.

Both methods are equally effective

How can they be equally effective if they will have different outcomes in port length?

I'm not claiming to be a master box builder (I know I'm not), I'm just curious, because really, the 1st way would be much easier to figure out.

1.5 cubes
1.5 x 13.5 x 28 port
33.87 Hz

3 cubes
3 x 13.5 x 28 port
33.08 Hz

Somewhere between 33-34 Hz. How come when I ask questions about port accuracy nobody cares?

Hm...fair enough, I guess I never really looked into that actual difference,

I guess it would really depend on how much of a perfectionist you are, but really, what's 0.8 Hz tuning difference (in a regular, everyday setup) between friends?
