Sub Box From Hell
 

Hey guys,

came up with a few ideas i'd like to do to two small sub boxes i'm making - After my recent (2nd within 2 years) break in, i've had enough....so i'd like to make things as hard, and painful to steal as possible.

Any feedback, or suggestions would be fantastic. I've already got the car alarm/security ideas on the table, so now I just need help with the amp/subbox situation.

Pretty self explanatory. But i'll list it anyways

- 3 metal L brackets, 1 per side of the box except the face. 2 bolts per bracket, 1 going into the sub box, with the nut on the INSIDE of the box. 1 bolt going through my car, with the nut underneath the car.

Question regarding bolts- The bolts that come into the subbox sides, should I use wood glue around them, then push them through, then silicon around the inside of them? Its a sealed box so it needs to be well - Sealed. Is this overkill? Or would this be a good idea?

OLFA blades, between the creases of the subbox sides/bottom/top, place them there, then proceed to wood glue/screw the box together. If these guys want my equipment, they better be prepared to loose some blood over it.

Lastly, when putting the sub woofer in the box, use screws with a TORX bit. After installing, getting metal BB's and putting them in every 2nd screw head, then give it a good tap to smush it in. Only way of removing is chiseling it out, then using the torx.

You should grab some el-cheapo GPS transceivers from some china ebay store and plant them in the box, that way you can trace it back to the thief, or where ever the location of the box may be.

just use some strips of Razor Wire.......much more effective

seriously though..why not get a good 2 way alarm and maybee a Microwave sensor....

I have a good two way alarm, but its fairly ineffective when you're in a movie theater and doesn't stand a chance to page you, such as last time - 3 cars away from the front door of the theater. Wasn't within range...guys broke in, cut battery cable, went to town.

Just added a battery backup siren now, and in the midst of sealing my trunk, then the only way to get to my things are if you get through the backseats....which require my car key to open - Can't even unbolt the seats until you put them down with the key.

on a funny note, i'm also starting to seriously consider a FlashFog system. If the alarm that doesnt go off after cutting the battery cable doesnt do it...maybe a dense full car fog will! YouTube - Burglars get smoked right out! (Smash and Grab security)

I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, thieves are one of the lowest forms of people.

Regarding the use of razor blades as a deterrent, however satisfying the idea would be to get back at these lowlifes, there may be a legal issue surrounding it. You may be liable for any of the thief's injuries if they can prove your intent to harm. If there are any police or lawyers on this forum, maybe they can clarify it further.

I'm all for your idea, just cautioning about potential legalities involved.

Why not just bolt the box down from the inside and have no need for the L brackets.........

Can't belelvive I never thought of that. So 3 bolts through the bottom of the box.

Although I don't think that would give it the same strength 3 brackets on each side of the box would. Someone might be able to give the box one nice big kick to rip the bolts from the bottom - while it would me much harder to do so if it had support from 3 different sides

techinally you could do 4 from the inside at 4 diffrent sides....like in the middle of each face at the edge...then thats more than 3 sides on the outside....if u use a big washer, it wont be that easy breaking it out. plus L brakets are not that strong...unless ur using like angle iron...most L brackets are just like cheesy sheet metal.

bolt the box from the inside....and if ur super concerned, bolt it from the inside into the box and do a bandpass like yuli said...pop the trunk and all u see is a wooden box...no way of gettin the subs and that without takin the box out and it wont come out

As far as the amp goes - Any suggestions? I've removed my spare tire, and the amp will get under the floor down there. I was thinking about putting 4 metal brackets around the amp, bolted to the car. That way you can pull the amp out - only way it comes out is it you unbolt the metal brackets. Best option I can think of.
